Let's hope fans come out to help BG avoid NCAA probation!

Post by BGSU33 »

We've got WMU on Saturday and Marshall the following week. Our average attendance has declined each week we've played despite winning five games in a row. The weather looks like it will be decent for WMU being its also now an afternoon game and the daytime high will factor in. Let's hope the same can be said for Marshall and that we get a great turnout for Marshall's last game in the MAC at BG. This can all help BG avoid falling into the NCAAs probations!!! I can't even believe we are having to discuss something like this with our team.

This paragraph was from a Cincinnati paper following Miami's game last night:

"For all of the Miami successes on the night, there was a large loss. Only 13,940 fans attended, pushing the season's average attendance to just 13,269. That means the RedHawks will be put on probation by the NCAA and if they average less than 15,000 fans next season their Division I-A status could be in jeopardy."

Keep in mind, Miami has no remaining home games this season....they are on the road the rest of the way.
GO BG!!!

I just heard Matt Markey on the Ticket, and he said that the attendance rules will never be used to push anyone out, but rather to keep I-AA teams from moving up. Don't forget that the new home game rules mean that the big schools need I-A team to play. So, I don't think its a big issue.

Yeah, I hope not. It's just a shame we're even close to something like this. I'd love to see 20,000 show up against WMU and see BG get a "W."
GO BG!!!

Yeah there is no way they are going send a team down who has 11 losses over the last 4 years. I don't even think any team in the MAC has anything to worry about.

I agree that the attendance at the games has been very disappointing but it isn't the people on AZZ that don't to the games, it is the locals. The problem with Saturday's game is A) it is supposed to be cold Saturday, B) the game starts at 1:00 which is the same time as the OSU/MSU game so I'm sure some people will stay home and watch that game, and C) our game is on tv so some fans will stay home where it is warm and dry and watch the game insted of coming out and supporting the team in the stands.
ROLL ALONG!!!!!

OOOOOHHHHHH...Probation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who gives a flying f***?

The NCAA can kiss my Hugh Jazz. What have they ever done for us anyway in any sport?

They only care about the high and mighty $$$. They never force any teams to schedule us at our place so the heck with them, let them threaten us.

Normally you hear probation and then comes suspension. So if we do get put on probation, what exactly happens after that? I'm not up-to-date on this situation at all...
