Not having checked the stats or game chart, but it seems to me that the offense killed us on 2nd down. Usually you hear "3rd down will tell the tale of this game." But there were a lot of series that went something like this:
1st Down: 4-6 yards
2nd Down: 1 yard gain to 2 yard loss
3rd Down: Incomplete Pass
It's weird to say, "we lost the game on 2nd down" but it's just one of about 30 different aspects where Toledo took it to us.
Go BG!
seemed to me it was second down

Thats because we often ran the exact same play on second down that we did on first down.
The following pattern describes the bulk of our offense last night.
1st down -- decent rushing play
2nd down -- same rushing play gets stuffed
3rd down -- AT airmails a receiver running an out or sideline curl.
OR (if the 3rd down was more than 7 yards)
3rd down -- QB draw, minimum 2 yard loss.
I think that sums up about 80% of our plays last night. Awesome.
