So on December 12 I will be packing up and moving to Miami, Florida. I am going to be living in South Beach to be exact. I got a job as an air traffic controller at Miami International. I actually have to spend 8 weeks in Oklahoma City at the Federal Aviation Administration's headquarters before permanently going to Miami.

I am thrilled about the move, I have always wanted to live in Florida. I will miss my BG sports teams though. I won't be able to go to a BG game or any MAC game for that matter on a whim anymore. I guess the trade off is I don't get to see many buckeyes now.

The way our men's teams are playing right now it might be a good time to leave

I am thankful for this forum as I will still be close to all the Falcon athletic news. It's too bad that game against FIU wasn't next season.

Went to South Beach for spring break my junior year. The place is awesome weatherwise, but other than that it's too snooty for me. All the clubs were like $20+ cover with strict dress codes and wouldn't let guys in unless they had like 3 girls with each guy. Once you got in all the beers were at least $6 a bottle.

The girls were gorgeous, and the cars you'd see on the road were awesome as well. I enjoyed my week there, but it's not really my cup of tea. Too expensive to really have fun there, just seemed like "the cool place to be" moreso than a really great time.

Good luck in yoru new job, I bet you'll learn to live with it though. I'm sure the pay is pretty good for cost of living reasons down there, so you'll be able to afford fun a little better than a bunch of college kids on vaca from NW Ohio could.

I actually wanted to live in Jacksonville but I didn't get picked up there like I was hoping.

Yeah I am prepared for the expenses and the the snoots but I wanted to live where a lot of action takes place. I'm not going to know anyone down there so I will have no trouble meeting new people in that area. It will be interesting. I am sure I will move out to residential area after a year or two. All my friends and relatives have been telling me where the next vacation they take will be

Very cool, good luck. I too am moving to the O.C. Orange County, December 13th. My dog and I are driving west. Wife and son are flying. Found a better job and my wife's family lives there. Therefore, free daycare and babysitting. Plus lots of golf with the father in-law. No more midwest weather. All 32 years have been either in BG or Chicago. Going to have to get used to the 10 am Steeler game starts...

My suggestion: get an environmental allergy test before you move out there. Trust me. It may be for naught, but if you are in any way like me, you won't regret the copay...

What is this test going to tell me? That I'm allergic to EVERYTHING? Becaues I already know that without dropping cash on the test.

BO: what is there to be allergic to in the desert? Supposedly the desert is supposed to be one of the best places for people with allergies because of the lack of vegetation. I think you just weren't used to inhaling sand

But seriously, though. It was most definately not just me who was allergic to the desert. As I found out, there is a budding cottage industry of allergists in Tucson and Phoenix, and according to my doctor, things have been getting progressively worse out there over the past 20 years. The Sonoran Desert used to be the place that allergy/asthma sufferers were sent because of the dry air, but, with more and more people moving to the area and bringing in non-native vegetation, pollen counts have absolutely exploded. For example, a pollen count of 100 is the level at which people with allergies begin to feel symptoms. During the Spring in Tucson, an average pollen count can be around 1000. This is why I ended up in the hospital with allergy-induced asthma in the middle of April (thought I was having a heart attack...).

And you're right, while there is relatively less vegetation in the desert, you also have to remember that there is no winter, or, "dead season." It is always allergy season out there, it only gets worse in the spring.

This is why I encourage anyone moving out there to get checked out. Allergies in the southwest can be so much worse than allergies in the east because of all these factors, and if you happen to be allergic to everything out there like I am, it is totally, completely debilitating, and in the long-term, dangerous. I really wish someone had reccomended this to me before I moved out there.

But, yeah - we'll blame it on the sand.
