Is time for Coach Brandon to go?

Post by Mflew »

Seriously, we have had some real sub par recruiting classes and with NWOHIO with some real nice talent we seem to have missed boat. Thoghts?

we are bound to have a couple rough seasons, I think that Coach Brandon should be allowed to fix what is broken, and finish out his contract. (is his contract up next year?) If he doesn't turn things around next year, then maybe he should go.

His contract lasts until the end of the 2008 season.

Jeremy, thanks for your note and feedback. Our season was a disappointment
on several levels. Obviously, we'll look at all aspects of the program over
the next few months. At this time, we will not be making a change re: Gregg
Brandon. While this year was underachieving, his four year record is still
among the best in the MAC, includes three winning seasons and the only two
bowl games since the early 1990's. If you'd like to talk about any specifics
related to football, feel free to call me here at the office. Thanks again
for your support of BG's student-athletes and best regards, Greg Christopher

Straight from the horse's mouth, folks. Sorry for the bad news.

I guess 2009 is as good a time as any to turn the program around.

The decision not to do anything is expected. However, it is disappointing that he resorted to the bogus PR spin as the justification, when we all know that financial considerations are the real reason.

Actually, even if we could afford the buyout, I doubt if we would make a move now. It is certainly not something anyone (or everyone) KNOWS.

I'll be rooting for Gregg Brandon to grow a pair and step up since he's gonna be here 2 more years. I'll still criticize him, but there's no point in calling for him to be fired anymore. I was hoping the AD would take some initiative and correct a situation before it really gets out of hand, but deep down we all knew this is what was going to happen.

Oh well. My expectations have been sufficiently lowered to be able to deal with the next few seasons of mediocrity.

GB is still a falcon, which means I'll be rooting for him to turn this around, no matter how hopeless I think it is...

I don't think that finances are the issue at alll...I think Christopher rightly sees that Brandon should get the chance to turn it around.

So far as teh AD is conerned, I woukld think men's basketball and hockey are more pressing situations right now than football.

Brandon's time is up in my opinion. Of course the athletic department obviously sees something most of us don't. The best players on the team who are leaving for the most part were recruits of Urban Meyer and his staff. Brandon has no recruiting talent!

I would disagree that Brandon does not bring in ANY talent. I believe he brings in some great players. I am not confident he can prepare that talent the way it needs to be prepared. Look at the end of the Blackney era. Many said he was a terrible coach who could not recruit. Then Urban came in and it suddenly clicked. Blackney was not good at coaching, but brought in the talent needed. Only time will tell if Brandon is the same way.

I think Brandon brings in plenty of raw talent. We don't the ability to teach & grow that talent into football players. We also don't seem to properly motivate that talent. Nor do we put them in schemes to maximize the talent.

I do think there is plenty of natural talent on this team (at all areas except possibly WR). The problem seems to be getting the most use out of it, and developing the talent.

It must be recruiting time. Another pretender shows up to make sure this topic stays at the top and some fall for it.
