From www.borderlandsnews.com in an article talking about UTEPs bowl options.

"A Fox Sports College football bowl projection has UTEP in Detroit's Motor City Bowl against Alabama-Birmingham. And there are WAC tie-ins to the GMAC Bowl, which would be interesting simply because of its location: Mobile, Ala. -- the state where UTEP head coach Mike Price was fired for alleged improper conduct in early 2003. "

"The GMAC Bowl has an option to try and select one of the teams they like. Then they have to send a MAC team over to one of the (WAC) bowl games. They may want to do something along those lines. And those are the main ones we deal with."

Which WAC bowl could be in play here? This could play to BG's advantage, in that sending UTEP to GMAC means a MAC team has to go west, which negates Marshall's possible advantage if they were up for the bid, but not the MAC title winner.

Plus, what voodoo has the MAC being bumped out of the Motor City Bowl?

Fox Sports has Texas El Paso and Alabama Birmingham playing in the Hawai'i Bowl.
