Miami (FL) DE Killed

Post by BGGrad01 »

Just saw breaking news on the UT/NIU game that a Miami (FL) defensive end was shot and killed today. Nothing on any of the major sports sites yet. Very, very sad.

How sad is it that my first thought was that an FIU player or group was involved somehow.

And how thuggy has Miami become that I see this reported and I don't even bat an eye? Wasn't surprised in the least.

It's a sad story nontheless.

My thought is, who spouted off at who... and how many of the people in the room had guns?

My thoughts exactly.

Meh. I'll get over it.

It's tragic that a kid died, and he very well could have been innocent, I really haven't looked into the story much... but the whole aura of Miami makes me skeptical that he was all that innocent.

From the reports I'v heard, he was a good kid. He was with the wrong crowd or something. Basically he was at the wrong place at the wrong time. I don't care where you go to school, if a kid gets shota couple hours after practice at his apartment complex, it's a sad thing. I hope that whoever did it get's the proper punishment.

Of course it's sad. That doesn't mean it surprised me.

that's pretty sad that someone would use the excuse that he's from Miami so it doesn't surprise me...that's making a pretty idiotic generalization

so if a BG player from Detroit gets shot walking back from the bars next weekend, it's not a tragedy, he's "just from Detroit so it doesn't surprise me"?? Great attitude

No, but if he gets shot walking around the ghetto in Detroit I wouldn't be surprised. Some places and situation are more prone to random thuggery than others. The Miami football team is most definitely one of them.

Has nothing to with where anyone is from, as your analogy alluded to, it has to do with the fact that he played for Miami's football team. Could have been the murder was completely random, but many of his teammates said publicly with no minced words that being on Miami's football team made them targets. You going to call them idiots too?

no, but i will definitely say you are an idiot by reading these past few posts...

Does OSU get generalized for Clarett carrying an arsenal of guns?

What about Nebraska, are they all women beaters b/c of Lawrence Phillips? Every school has their example of issues they've been through and moved past.

You are making a idiotic comment by generalizing a university that i'd assume you know little to nothing about. The rule of "think before you talk" might apply very well here.

I really have no stake in this argument, but I would like to respectfully point out that I can't think of another school besides UM where things have gotten so bad that SI questioned whether they should have a football team or not on their cover. I believe that was in '97 or '98 - not sure, but I remember hearing about that after the FIU rumble.

Reading comprehension is fun-damental.

I'm not generalizing the university, I'm generalizing it's football team. And it's not just me that thinks this, it's probably 90% of the general population. Miami has had a thuggy football team for as long as I remember. You might say they've "moved past it", but I call BS.

You've picked an impossible position to defend with thinly-veiled shots and poorly conceived analogies.
