Brandon to Florida??? (It's a rumor...FOR NOW)
I don't mind a guy from MTV coaching the team. Just as long as the show his job is featured on isn't always on a @#$@# weekday like most of our TV games.

So Brandon is going to leave a head coaching job with a couple years left on his contract so he can become an offensive coordinator at a BCS Conference school?
Not going to happen! Those opportunities will still be there for him in a couple years if he can't turn things around here. Why does he need to take a demotion on his own now? Not a great career move. if he's loking to become a head coach down the road again.

Actually, at this point, you could make an argument that offensive coordinator at Florida could lead to more opportunities than BG's head coaching job. He would probably be getting paid the same amount, if not more, as well.Rollo83 wrote:So Brandon is going to leave a head coaching job with a couple years left on his contract so he can become an offensive coordinator at a BCS Conference school?

He could increase his salary and move from Ohio to Florida. What's not to like? Nobody is going to convince me that being a mediocre head coach at Bowling Green puts you in a better situation for a big-time head coaching job than being a good to great OC at Florida.
I'm sure Brandon knows this, and I also think (hope) he would jump at the opportunity if it were presented. Maybe Brandon is even beginning to realize he's better off being an OC? Who knows?
In any event, I completely disagree with the notion that this move would be a bad career move for GB.

That's where the "who knows?" part comes in.orangeandbrown wrote:You know, it could be too that you dreamed your whole life of being a head coach, and you're not ready to give up yet. Just because some people think he has already failed doesn't mean he feels that way.
Anywho -- his feelings don't really matter if he doesn't vastly improve as a head coach while he's here. If things continue as is, there's no way in Hell he gets another D1A head coaching offer straight from BG. If he does feel he still wants to be a head coach, and more power to him if he does, the only way he'll get another shot is to go be a successful OC somewhere. No better place for him currently or two years from now than Florida.
Actually, judging by the lack of change we saw in him this year, I think you're probably right -- he doesn't think he's failing. This is trouble for us.

Coach Brandon needs to have sustained success at BG before he could ever be considered as a head coach at a "big-time" program. Even if he went to Florida as OC and was incredibly successful the 4-year tenure at BG with its downward trend in victories would be a red flag for any coaching selection committee. With success at Florida he could land a HC gig at a mid-major--which is where he is already. I guess it depends on what his career aspirations are.
And each season his won/loss record has gotten worse. That tells me a lot more about his coaching then what happened four years ago.Flipper wrote: Brandon has had ONE losing season and he's coached the team to two bowl wins and a national ranking.

Unless he wins a MAC championship, or gets us ranked, or at least gets 10 wins, I don't think he's in the discussion for another head coaching job fresh after BG. UNLV didn't even want him, and that was before this year's debacle. No way on God's green earth he gets consideration for anything like Iowa State or MSU or NCSU without some serious success with his players at BG.Flipper wrote:I think a good run as a high level BCS coordinator will get you a low level BCS gig. I think that would be an easy sell.
FWIW, I don't
think it's been proven that he ISN'T a head coach...
I think he's going to eventually be the type of guy that works his way up the OC food chain and ends up staying at a nice program in that position for the remainder of his career and do very well.

When a coach 'elects to stay' at his current job, it usually means he wasn't offered the new job. I agree with J4H. Brandon wasn't getting the UNLV position because they didn't want him, not the other way around.Jacobs4Heisman wrote:I stand corrected. With the AD standing with Brandon, for now, it's time to look at other options. Maybe it is time to shuffle duties amongst the staff. Perhaps Stud is not the right OC for us right now, or maybe he is a great OC but needs to be down on the field with the players. The decision to move him up was huge. I think the entire staff needs to sit down and decide if changes in their duties are needed. Maybe we have the correct people in place, but they are in the wrong roles. Right now, anything is worth trying.
