Cowboys' kicking revolving door swings again

Post by TG1996 »

Dallas released Vanderjagt today, but signed Martin Gramatica after rumors that Shaun Suisham was headed back to the Cowboys for the 4,299th time.

I thought he was on the Niners PS for a bit, but might have been released from there as well. (Though being on a PS would make sense as to why Parcells wouldn't sign him. He'd have to keep him on the roster and not be able to cut him two weeks later. :? )

So he's been signed and released by the Cowboys FOUR times?? He's done well when given the chance. Yet all these other kickers for Dallas can't keep the job? Something ain't right with this.

Any thoughts? Is this normal in the NFL these days to be signed and released so many times in a short span?

It's not really normal, but kicking is a different story altogether. Probably 25 teams or so have kickers that they're confident in and comfortable with. The other teams are constantly looking for somebody to come in and cement the duties. They'll often bounce between young kickers with good legs that are inconsistent to old vets that cannot get much distance any longer.

Parcells is especially notable for hating kickers if they miss a kick. Would not surprise me that he has a revolving door at the position, even after spending big bucks on a big name kicker.

I bet his newest kicker will be gone in 2 weeks.
