And CMU accepted a bid to the MCB today.

I thought Cincinnati already named their new head coach...or was that an interim deal I saw?transfer2BGSU wrote:Who does Ohio play and lose to in their bowl game before Solich heads to the big $$$ of Cincinnati?

Interim. A Cincinnati guy will lead the Cincinnati team.TG1996 wrote:I thought Cincinnati already named their new head coach...or was that an interim deal I saw?
Over on their board they found a way to blame Nancy Z. for the coach leaving (as well as lots of venom spewed at Mark D).
I saw two names crop up: Amstutz and Solich (although no one over there wants a MAC coach or bIg 10 Assistant Coach).

I read something I hadn't thought of... CMU's bowl bid is their first since 1994, which is odd, because I don't remember that season ever happening...

1994. The Falcons had 8 conference games, and CMU 9. I always have felt funny about that, with the unbalanced schedules each team had. It wasn't the first time a MAC team either failed to get a third OOC game, or had been given a MAC team to play, in which the result wasn't supposed to count as a conference game. EMU played somebody twice I recall in the early '90s.
In theory, one of CMU's MAC games should not have counted towards their final conference record. I thought for a time it was supposed to be the BGSU game. Some of us had already declared the team the champion. They had two OOC games, we had three. But the week the final "fat punter" game was played, the conference commissioner declared that the game was a winner take all game. Which I'm not certain it was supposed to be going in. Some of the influence to make such a declaration came from the fact that the game was put on TV in place of a UT game that week. The media at the time had to ask a few times, as to what happened if CMU won the game. The understanding going into the game week, was that since the game wasn't supposed to be a actual conference game, a BG loss would result in overall records being compared. Assuming the BG loss, the Falcons would have been 9-2, CMU 8-3. Thus BG would have supposedly been the MAC champion.
BG was generally so distracted by the loss, nobody seems to have hammered the administration to fight the point, nor to have taken the commish to task for shooting his mouth of in advance of the game.
The league has long since buried the issue, and the last time the topic was looked into, they soft-shoed around it.
BG was looked at for the Liberty Bowl that year, but didn't get the bid.

So the MAC screwed BG, and the BG admin did nothing about it. Sounds familiar....BG was generally so distracted by the loss, nobody seems to have hammered the administration to fight the point, nor to have taken the commish to task for shooting his mouth of in advance of the game.
