Yes the time has come for BG to make the move to artificial turf. I hope Mr. Christopher is seriously considering it. Would be cool to see the soccer teams play on it too...

P.S. I have been getting hammered by my friends at work who know I'm a BG alum re: the MUD Bowl game vs Miami..They said it was like watching a bad High School game...Pissed me off!! Make the switch BG!!!!

I see it as a reason that the conference will pressure us to change. Notre Dame doesn't have that concern because they're Independent and God let's then do pretty much what hey want outside of tackling guys from USC

I've been firmly on the natural grass side of the argument for years. But now with so many high schools putting in the plasti-grass, I'm not sure that it won't affect our recruiting by being the only MAC school without it.

I think I feel myself capitulating and drawn to the dark side.

You think that players would base their college decisions on what kind of playing surface a school has? That would be downright rediculous on the part of any aspiring college player.

If you get offered to play at Bowling Green and Ball State, I doubt you would pick Ball State just because they have fieldturf. In fact, I could see the reverse being true. Some players don't like fieldturf at all.

If what you say about kids not going to Ball State because they don't like fieldturf, then the opposite must be true as well. Kids might not pick BG because they don't like grass.

I think that players have a number of factors they consider when deciding which school to attend. One of those would be playing surface, and if yours is the only one that's different from the schools with which you compete, then that could be the tipping point.

I think that if we had any potential recruits watching the Miami game, that we surely lost some afterward.

I think the turf debate should be used to open a larger discussion about renovating the stadium. The Sebo Center's a nice, privately funded start, but the rest of the stadium hasn't seen serious work since it was built. There's been some cosmetic changes with the high school quality grandstands and the bleachers and they did finally got around to installing that 9" inch video screen to repalce the original 1965 scoreboard.

But....The physical structure needs work...concrete repair, maybe some brick facades to match the Sebo Center, a new field that doesn't look bad on TV or drive the kicker back to Florida, Maybe erect a bookstore shop and Falcon Club lounge outside the south endzone...turn the thing into a nice walk way with a sit down restaurtant or two...anything that would improve the view and maybe encourage people to come out even if the weather's bad or might turn bad.

The Doyt, the Library and good old Anderson Arena are the three buildings I can think of on campus that have been ignored. Hmmm...are there any academic departments housed in those buildings? ROTC is at AA...they aren't going to have any pull. Is anyone at the library? Those football clowns are at the stadium. I can see why the University has ignored those buildings...it's largely students that use them, so who the hell cares. You need to get some tenured, whiny profs with some pull an office or two at the Doyt and then we might see it spruced up a bit structurally.

Flipper, I agree, the library does need renovation, and it seems that it is going to get it at some point soon.

The "will" does not exist at BGSU to begin a total rebuild of DLP Stadium. I think they'll chip away at it....insert your personal choice of pun here.....until most all the issues we complain about have been dealt with.

Much as I might love a massive project, I think the future of the stadium is in a slow evolution, not a "big bang" event.

I think that building the future convocation center in the south endzone might not be a bad idea. The point would be to use another massive project to incorporate more changes and upgrades the core stadium. Look at how the Sebo's second floor matches the current level of offices so well. Now envision future projects that slowly absorb those offices, maybe expanding them, until the entire area under the seating deck is one unified building leading to the convo center on the other side.

As for the turf, another thought behind changing it at DLPS, would be to then add an inflatable bubble to practice in. Pay for it with the parking money from where the existing three practice fields are.

Add stadium boxes along the rest of the top of the deck. You could cover the up-front money with the annual sale of rights to them.

Why build another practice facility when we already have a fieldhouse?

Dissimilar turf, distance and complications getting the team and equipment over to it, schedule issues, etc.

In any case, with turf, they wouldn't likely use the field house much anyway, given that the locker rooms, Sebo, and other such items would be right at the point of practice.
