LOL!! I agree about being more disappointed last year than this year. We had the talent and experience last season.JWEIII wrote:Hmmm. So you made the point I was TRYING to make in one sentence. Show off.Falconfreak90 wrote:
Practically a whole new group of players to build chemistry.
We started from scratch this year. And while the results sting a bit, it wasn't all that unexpected (to me, anyway).
This probably will open whole new can of worms, but I was more upset with last year's results than this years. But I'm kind of strange.
Anyway...
Houston, we have a problem ! ! !

Every college has turn-over and players leave every year, but mostly it's due to playing time, recruiting promises not being kept or academics. But several scholarship players anlong with Ellis will not return after winter break. I ask why walk away from a full college scholarship? Ellis has been quite but the others who are not retruning are all saying the same thing, its the coaching, or better yet the lack of competent coaching. Several of these guys have experienced good coaching, although it was high school, and they know the difference between good football and bad football. On the recruiting circuit the recruits are being told that BGSU is a good academic school but don't go there if you want to play football. Whats up with this??? please can someone enlighten me on our program.
This sort of stuff pains me to here, but it doesn't really surprise me. Our current coaching staff is in over their heads...the peter principle applies to our HC & OC, most notably. Even when we were winning a few years ago we were not a well coached team, and we showed all the signs of it. Now that we don't have the overwhelming talent we are starting to lose games because of it.Overstreet23 wrote:Every college has turn-over and players leave every year, but mostly it's due to playing time, recruiting promises not being kept or academics. I'd like to think think that the players would try to stick it out and put in extra work to make up for it, but I realize that's not the real world. We have kids that came here with the expectations that the winning would continue, and that's not happening...we're bound to get some kids that think it'll be easier to jump ship than put in the work required to help the team get better. If I'm in their shoes, I'm not sure I'd want to stick around either. If they don't have faith in this coaching staff to get the job done, why should they put in the work?
It's sad that we may be losing more players, but that's the way it goes. We should have a new HC in place for the 2009 season, and it's starting to look like he'll inherit a situation very similar to the one Urban inherited in '01. Hopefully we can find someone with the ability to turn it around as quickly.
