Fake Turf would keep that pesky band from ruining the playing surface in pregame and halftime.

We should dump the slogans and sentimental hogwash and go with the Fieldturf. We don't have a chance to host HS games exactly because we can't offer a decent field, nor “risk” damange to the mulch fodder the team plays on. I love the look of the real thing, I'm all for it, but BGSU has not shown the ability to keep-up such a field. Moments of glory aside, the University hasn't shown the competency to do it.

While we are at it, as “Its the Journey” once suggested, see how deep the can drop the field from the turf level. See if any additional seats can be added.

Heck, Ohio State has all the money on earth, and they couldn't keep their turf (any of the three fields they had) up to snuff. Now they are finally dropping it. BGSU does not have the cash to spend, and would save in the long-term by getting rid of it.

You can't polish a turd. All you do is spread the mess everyplace and create a stink. That field was a pathetic image for the University and program to have blasted across the TV nationally. On average the field looks washed out, worn down, and pathetic.

Worried about the money? No need, they'll likely go cheap like they did with the scoreboard. Sure its better than a 40 year old set of Christmas lights, but its a smallish, fuzzy, and washed out. Plus the backside, shown to most people that drive by, still looks like a 1970s car with duck-taped lights and a missing bumper.

I'd just like to see the University spend the F'ing money and finish one of these projects as it should be, not try to pull the budget so tight you could read through it. The Sebo too long to start, the scoreboard took too long to replace, the condition of the stadium is poor, and the list of counterparts at most of the other venues is about as bad. Hmmm, I feel a rant coming on. Best to stop for now.

Good post NWLB, I agree with just about everything you said. Like many of you, I like real grass too, but there are many reasons why so many schools have gone to Fieldturf, many of which we should be doing too. I would love to see us put Fieldturf in and soon as its benefits outweigh what we have now many times over. From the easy of maintenance, to having a good playing field in different weather conditions, to being able to practice in the stadium, to the ability to use the field for other events, etc. I just hope that if we do another project like this, that we don’t cut corners like we did with other upgrades like the videoboard at the stadium. Like you said, it’s great that we now have one, but you can barely see it. It’s like buying a new car and not being able to drive it. I can see it now, BG will invest in Fieldturf, but only in five yards strips every other five yards of the field.
GO BG!!!

I was once in the grass-only camp, but I have read enough of this pissing match over the past few weeks. I want field-turf, too. No one on the other side of the argument has made a competant comment thus far. I'm sorry, and I mean no offense. But, from the sounds of it, we would be stupid not to install field turf.

I tried to walk across the field after the Miami game to get to my car. I made it about four steps and ruined a perfectly good pair of Steve Madden's. Thats insane.

A lot of players prefer field turf to grass. Really, that's all the endorsement I need. I wouldn't be surprised if we've already started contacting local businesses for donations.

I read it in the Dispatch last week.

About three years ago an information pack about Field Turf was on the desk of a person in the athletic department. It has been looked into.

They're changing to fake grass...they haven't decided which fake grass. Per this stroy, they sunk $167,000 into installing and repairing the real stuff this year. With an estimated cost of $600,000 (looks like they'll have to forego the genuine walnut lockers again this year) it makes no sense to pay for the upkeep of the real grass playing surface.

We have taken several thousand away in recent years...it would be nice to create some good closer seats. It would mess up the sebo center, tho, so it isn't going to happen

When they decide they need more seats, they'll either put them back in the Sout end zone, or they'll finish that end of the stadium.
