[ridiculous assumption that all you do is dissect bugs for a living]
From now on, you aren't allowed to use your eyes while dissecting bugs, and you have to used dull, rusty instruments by order of your boss. Then, when your work is sub-par, there's going to be a gathering of hundreds of your respected fellow-bug-dissecters, many of which are your friends, and your boss is going to tell them all that you are bad at your job.
Oh, and you have the emotional range of an 18-yr-old kicker. Still no sympathy?

I'll bet you a shiny nickel that we have a kicker and punter on scholarship when the season starts next year.
Perhaps, but not straight out of high school as I stated above! I'm fine with scholarships to kickers out of Juco schools or even walk-ons that earn scholarships after putting in a little time. BG should not be recruiting punters and kickers as scholarship athletes directly from high-school, there are just to many unknowns and they commonly get beat out by non-scholarship kickers and punters. IMO, they are a waste to use on kids directly out of high school.
Gotcha, in that case, I agree. Juco is the route to go right now.
I'm not sure I'd pass on a #1 recruit at punter though. Rojas had shown plenty of potential before being driven out of town. That one probably would have been worth it down the road.
Jacobs4Heisman wrote:Sean had potential, but he wasn't a top recruit. Rojas was rated #1 by scout.com.
And for those that want to bash them for leaving, go back and read through post-game comments all year long from Brandon. No way in Hell I'd want to put up with that crap any more, and neither would any of you. What if you had a weekly meeting at your job, and every week your boss stood up in front of everybody and told them you suck. All this after your boss made decision after decision that made your job much tougher to do. How long would you stick around, and would your ex co-workers rag on you after you left for leaving? I doubt it.
Completely unacceptable from a head coach to put these kids in this position. They were 18-yr old freshman for Christ's sake -- and kickers to boot! Kickers have always been a little emotionally out there, and so have 18-year-old freshman. Sounds like a great idea to attack their confidence constantly. Great leadership. I put almost ZERO blame on these 2 kids for leaving.
Great point....A coaches job is to put his players in position to succeed. Not put them in position to fail and then blame them for failing.

completely ridiculous indeed. I dissect Mice, and I can do it with my eyes closed.
I have seen the formations we use work by many other schools. I believe the philosophy of GB is that "this is the formation I want to use, we will use it, and you will learn it. If it takes time so be it" and I agree with that philosophy. Secondly, many of the shanks were not the fault of any formation.

I would pass. The fact that BG was so easily able to recruit the "#1" punter, just goes to show how the rest of college football feels about giving scholarships to "leg-only" athletes.
As for being driving out of town, I'm pretty sure that both Ellis and Rojas will be doing the driving if they are leaving. I've heard no news of their scholarships being pulled, in fact I thought they we're welcomed back for next year. These two kids don't know what pressure or criticism is if the can't take a coach wanting them to perform to a level acceptable for a "#1" punter and top-recruit kicker. Hell, didn't we all just see the Parcells cut the #1 all-time field goal percentage kicker. Obviously, I'm not happy with them leaving, but I say if they do ultimately do decide to leave BG, their schollies can be better used elsewhere.
I don't mean to "bash" on anyone. They may be 18 year olds, but they are here on scholarships to play football. If they can't handle a little critisism from coaches or anyone for that matter, maybe they shouldn't be college football players.
Perhaps the coaching staff did not put them in the best situations throughtout the season, but what about our questionable playing calling and our ST return defense. Does that give those players the right to quit?
The coaches have nothing but the best of intentions for their players. It just seems as though these guys who are quitting just don't know how to handle things when things aren't going their way. I remember when some BG kicker by the name of Suisham had a so-so year, worked hard in the offseason, and came out "kicking" and screaming the next year. He seems to be doing alright. That's proof in itself that a BG kicker can make it at the next level. A few special teams adjustments by our coaching staff, along with with the kickers working hard, and we could be right back on track with our kicking game in 07.
I just hate to see it come to this after only semester at BG. Again, I'd really like to hear their reasons for leaving.

And one could argue those shanks were the result of loss of concentration due to having one eye on the rush and only one eye on kicking the ball. If Rojas wasn't concerned about getting every punt blocked, I am confident he wouldn't have shanked as many as he did.

Well then if that is the case, it is still his fault, and is why he should be visit a "sports psychologist" (now if there ever was a made up profession, that has to come to the top of my list) If it gets blocked because someone gets by then that is what happens. He needs to concentrate on kicking the ball,
Frankly if Brandon is going die by that sorry excuses for a punt formation, then he brought in the wrong kind of punter...square hole, round peg...big sledge hammer will make it fit

How is it the punter's fault when the coach refuses to change from a fundamentally flawed protection formation?

GB bragged about bringing in these 2 prospects... what's he singing now? I'm really disappointed in both of these kickers and the coach!
4th & 13 on PU 32yd line.. 56,000 fans up on their feet screaming, i held my breath the entire play trying to make as little noise as possible.. wouldnt u know Sharon would make the biggest touchdown catch in the history of BG Football, FALCON UP!
We know what we see. We see kids struggling on the field and a coach commenting on it in the papers and elsewhere. Maybe it's the coach, maybe it's the kids, but they were struggling.
We don't know what happened behind closed doors...we won't know what happenend behind closed doors. Did the coaches bury them to the rest of the team? Did the coaches ride them to get them to leave? Did the coaches try to work with them, but the kids weren't mature enough to follow through? We don't know, we're fans...
So, as fans we'll move on and hope for something better next year. We'll hope for better performance and results from the players and coaches. We'll hope for a return to the success we saw in 2001-2004.
Personally, as an alum who really enjoyed my days at BGSU, I'm bothered by the notion that a couple of kids came who here hoping to enjoy the same kind of experiences we enjoyed are leaving after a semester.
They're leaving with a bad taste in their mouths (and not just from the dorm food) ....that bugs me a bit.
Sounds to me like it is time for Greg to get out as well. He is obvioulsy losing his team and that is not good at all! How do you expect to land any big recruits here if all they are seeing is people leaving after just one season.
I've heard football players talking about practices and stuff and it dosen't sound like there is much, if any respect for Coach Brandon. I'm sure he knows this is the case and he is trying to get them back but once they are gone, you are done for and are better off to leave and let someone else come in.
I would be willing to be a ton of money on the fact that if a new coach were to come in here, it woudl undoubtedly turn things around. I'm not saying Brandon is a horrible coach (I would say very bad woudl be acceptable) but a change of pace and philosophy is what this team needs.

I AGREE TOTALY
like I said before there are other players on the team that are going through the same thing. Rojas and Ellis were here for one season and when things got bad they ducked out.....
I hate to think that we are losing both of our kickers. I can't say I blame either one of them. I know during several home games that the student section was mercilessly harassing Rojas went he went for a punt. There were many things said such as "Here comes another block" or "He sucks". It was terrible. I know many people also joked about Ellis's kick at Miami. It's easy for the students to look at that and go "Oh they suck" without taking into consideration all the mud and other conditions that football players have to deal with out on the field. That extreme lack of support from your fellow students had to have been tough with which to deal. I'm not trying to make excuses, but I am trying to rationalize their mindsets.
FWIW, maybe we should have played Ellis as a receiver. With his height, he could have easily caught a good number of the passes that were overthrown.
GO FALCONS!!
