Assistant Captain Quits…

Assistant Captain Quits…

The team continues to implode with Senior and Assistant Captain Rich Meloche opting to leave the team.

Meloche a stalwart of the team has played in 13 of 16 games this year and has contributed 2 goals. A team already smarting from losing Sophomore Brian Bales in November will feel the loss of Meloche. Rich is one of the “regular” guys on the team and has always been a “real” teammate to his compatriots. This is a guy who has sacrificed for his hockey and the BGSU Falcons and his coach, so one must respect his decision.

What can one say, just another nail in the coffin of the BGSU Hockey Program.

I can’t wait to hear what the “Cool Aid” drinkers will say. Pdt1081 let hear your inane babble defending Paluch again and blaming the players for the woes of the team.
Keep tuned in; there may be more to come.

While an assistant captain leaving the team is certainly an issue and one that should be a red flag to ALL Falcon fans (or at least raise curiosity as to what his reasons were), snide comments like this one are why I "mark all posts read" on the hockey board more than I ever have before.

I think we're all adult enough to state our opinions on news like this without calling out and insulting those that have honest opinions that differ from your own.

I agree with TG. It is a red flag, but the snide comments can be left at home.

No disrespect, but we have plenty of undersized forwards that can't put the puck in the net. This will have little to no effect on the teams effort this weekend and the rest of the season.

Rich Meloche is the heart and soul of this year's team. I was aware he wasn't getting as much out of the game as he was putting in, but I really thought he'd finish his final season, and try to help the younger players get adjusted. I'm going to miss seeing him and his family at the games.

This is what concerns me about it the most... Losing a player with low production on the ice is negligible, but having a captain walk away hurts.

You can slice it any way you want. Not winning has been the way since 1991. There has been very little talent at BG since that time .Scotty Bowman couldn't make these guys winners. I f the coaches bear blame for the debacle that the season is turning into it's for recruiting these lousy players that we have.
HOWEVER
I am tired of the bashing that the coaches have taken. Whatever will happen will happen . We have an AD to worry about that and none of us will have any input to that process if and when it happens.
The current team will need to improve or when and if they replace the coach they should get rid of allthe current team.

dino's pizza, wow that may be the most ignorant message I have read to date. Which means a lot. Any of these kids playing would be regulars and would be producing much more than they are doing with this coach.
Just so all of you know I was going to post this like a month ago about Richie but I didn't want to ruin anything else for him. Theres a reason why he chose to hurry up and graduate early, he is like 99% of the team when he wishes to leave the team if the coach doesn't. I am glad for him becuase now he can go and play hockey and have fun doing it, this was never the case in the last four years at BG. How many more people have to quit becuase Paluch is making them hate playing hockey. Are you fans beginning to see a trend. Red Flag is right, a huge red flag.

Two questions, since there may or maynot be a press release on this....... Are you saying that Meloche is graduating at the end of Fall Semester? And two, does he have a deferred draft status or was he never drafted? Those facotrs would certainly weight his decision to leave, particularly with the present state of affairs.

Concerning Dino's Pizza comment about getting rid of the current team, whether you like that or not, there is a high chance that if (at this junture, when) we get a new coach, some players are going to be shown the door. It happened when Pooch showed up and it happened when Urban Meyer showed up.

I think there is value in cleaning house at all levels. It happens all the time in business and basically this is business. The Malcontents and players who think they are the coach will certainly be given the chance to "straighten up and stay", but it will be a short leash. Any new coach is going to want to establish control and authority over the situation.

Just to clarify, any new forum member using the name "Dinos Pizza" is a probably a long standing BG hockey fan - to even before you were born and possibly before I was on campus. Dino's was the traditional hang-out for hockey players in the late 70's to early 80's. He is certainly voicing his frustration.

Welcome aboard Dino.

With all the players leaving the hoops team in the last year. Both kickers leaving the football team this week now this. What the hell is happening to BG athletics.

Maybe we have to go back to the Dakich quote. "its like an epidemic, kids quit everyday"

Ok...I seriously had to take a few HOURS to calm down after reading this. I am so incredibly frustrated and angry right now, that I don't even have the words to fully explain my feelings at this point.

First, let me say that I wish Rich the best in all that he does. I don't know the kid personally, but I've said more than once that I loved his playing style. All hustle and heart. He was out of the lineup at ND and I remarked at that time that it was definitely noticable.

Secondly, those that know me, know I have been angry and frustrated about this program for over 2 years. But they also know that I have been in my seat for every home game. (well..minus one) I also travel to many away games. So, they also must know that this complete destruction of a once proud PROGRAM is devistating to me. Falcon Hockey is what I turned to for a get away from real life...some relaxation, if you will. Some enjoyment, which I have had very little of for the past 2 years. Falcon Hockey is what I watched with my Dad a week before he died in 1994 and was something that helped me get through the aftermath. I'm devistated by the state of this PROGRAM and I don't give a rats A** at this point who is at fault, I want it fixed NOW!

Lastly, I'm a facts type of girl...so I did a little math.

approx. $100 for season tickets = $50 (1/2 a home season/8 games)
$5/game for parking = $35 (7 games/missed UConn game)
$2.50/game for Mt. Dew =$17.50
A Road Trip to ND
Hotel = $90
Tickets ($12/game x 2 games) = $24

For a grand total of $216.50 for seeing ONE win

A little more specific: I have seen 23 home goals scored for the Falcons at a cost of $102.50. That breaks down to a cost of $4.46 PER GOAL!

OK...at the end of the day, my point is this. If I look at this cost over the course of a season (or 30! :) ) It's something I care about deeply and want to see fixed NO MATTER WHAT IT TAKES!

Go Falcons!

I thought Meloche graduated last spring but had another year of playing eligibility and was taking graduate courses, but I could be wrong. Just to help some people out here, you don't have to be drafted to go play pro. I know there are several NHL teams interested in some current BG players, none of them were drafted. They are what is termed "free agents." There's a lot of money being dangled and, gee, it looks kinda good right now, don't it boys? Of course they will go to the AHL or ECHL first, then work their way up to the NHL hopefully. Anyway, I can't say more about Meloche's situation until it's ready for publication. PS: Anyone who thinks the BG players stink just don't know hockey. You recruit thoroughbreds and then force them play like draft horses, open rebellion is just a matter of time. It's really sad.

Lets take a look at this one sentence at a time. But, before we do one observation regarding Rich, ........ you can't score goals if you don't get ice time. Not even Wayne Gretzky scored goals while sitting on the bench.

1. ..... we have plenty of undersized forwards that can't put the puck in the net.

You can't be serious. These aren't Buddy's boys you know. They're all gone now. These are Paluch's hand picked recruits we're talking about here. Don't you think he knows what type of players he needs to be successful? Surely you're not suggesting that he and Fogarty screwed up and brought in lousy players.

2. ....will have little to no effect on the teams effort this weekend and the rest of the season.

Is that right? All through the spring, summer and fall all we've read about on this forum until we're sick of then are; (a) fire Paluch and (b) how the team lacked leadership last year, and that's why we finished last. We now lose, arguably, the player with the best leadership ability in either year and it won't make a bit of difference? BS.

As someone else has already pointed out Rich Meloche meant a great deal to this team in the locker room and on the ice. Good luck to him in whatever he does. He's a fine young man.
Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.

Personally, I'll wait for the official announcement before I make any comments on the situation.

As for you calling me out about inane babble defending Paluch, what little respect I had for you just went out the window with that little comment. I have never seen one positive post from you about the hockey team so I really don't pay much attention to what you post anymore. I have seen what a college coach goes through during a season. I have seen the affects of the stress they are put under. I have seen a coach not know what to say to players who don't care anymore. It gets frustrating for everybody involved with the team. I know, I've been there. I can sympathize with coach Paluch because I have seen it before. Unless you've seen it from the inside out, I really don't hold your opinion to much.
