College Hockey infill for NHL?

Post by Tech83 »

Has there been any talk and movement by the CCHA and the other leagues to get a more mainstream TV package with the NHL lock-out? I would think that getting an ESPN deal for NCAA Div 1 hockey this season would be doable. I would think getting a one year deal would help spread the faith and following of College Hockey.

Time-Warner in Dayton had CSTV for about two weeks earlier this fall, then pulled it, which means for my area, we have to rely on any games on ONN or as I prefer to call their sports coverage OsuNN

I took 32 Cub Scouts and parents to a Miami hockey game last year. To the person - they all loved the game and the experience. Most had been to a Dayton Bombers game and really liked watching a hockey game rather than a WWF event.

This is college hockeys chance to take some market share.

I personally know the videographer for the Bombers. The players come up to him every night and tell him what period and who they are going to fight so he will catch it on video. The players then send the vids home to Dad.

The joke is on you and you don't even know it.

I personally prefer to watch hockey and not the fights - particularly knowing that many times they are staged (real fight - but planned to some level) or forced to create "excitement" for the fans. But that's minor league sports for you. That's why I support BG and college hockey over the local minor league team. Even my 11 year son gets annoyed at the fights at a Bombers game. Maybe because that I have taken him to enough BG Hockey games that he can appreciate the athletism of these college athletes over watching a fight between two guys who will never rise out of the minors.

But to each his own.........The subject of the thread is will college hockey take this opportunity to gather and increase their market share, which is very family friendly.

I'm with you Tech...college hockey is great! They don't put up with that BS fighting stuff and no big $$$$ salaries. The Frozen Four is a blast towatch on ESPN.

I think we all agree how great that would be, to have college hockey on mainstream TV, nationwide. But I would wager that they will show more NBA games (WHY????) in the holes left by NHL. I dont know why, since the NBA is not a sport, but thats my guess.

With the Frozen Four in Columbus this year and the way our Falcons are playing, we all may need to chase down some tickets.
