They have a great indoor football field for a Dvision 1-AA team. Only seats 12,000 but something like that would be great for a school like BG. Could be used for all sports. Could be a field house, basketball, ice arena, and football field.

I know we already have these things but would be a cool idea. Can we enclose the Doyt and have the SEBo on one end and a big glass wall on the other end? That would be great. BG would be hosting OHSAA and NCAA events every weekend with a facility like that.

Very similar to the UNI-Dome, home of the Iowa HS football finals. I saw BGSU play basketball against Northern Iowa in the UNI-Dome, UNI is 1AA in football and Div. 1 in hoops:

What is it they say about multi purpose buildings? You can have a good multi purpose arena, that will never be a great basketball venue or football venue.

Football was intended to be played outside on natural grass and if it rains and becomes mud so be it. This is real football, natural football.

What ideas are next...stronger line via the use of steroids?

If he goes to Idaho, he could recruit Uncle Rico.

College football was meant to be played during the day time...ok, we put in lights. College football was meant to be played on Saturday...ESPN will show our gema if we play it on Wednesday and turn it into a Big 10 infomercial??....deal!!

Football was meant to be played on grass...gee it's raining really hard and the field looks like the mud pit at woodstock. Neither team gets to showcase their talents and that defeats the purpose of playing on a Wednesday....Wow..we look really bad on national TV playing on a field that would embarrass a decent sized High School.

We should probably get some artificial turf so we don't look so low rent and cheesy again

To stay on topic...this is the second HC job Mick has reportedly been up for in the last couple of years. I hope he lands it if he wants it...

Those are great points, there's really no point anymore in being sentimental about natural football when we play under the lights on a Tuesday.

You've all sold me. If I'm AD, I put field turf as money priority number 2.

Fine post, Flip. Use of logic will no doubt be unpopular.

Flipper makes great points there.

I am in the football should be played on grass outdoors camp.

But...

If they cannot maintain the grass- crown the field properly, install good drainage, tarp it when needed- then I think they should explore other possibilities.

The thing is though judging by our standards with recent upgrades (videoboard) I am guessing we'd go the cheap route on the turf and end up with a bad surface instead of one that closely resembles grass.

My nightmare is that we end up with that crap Toledo has on their "field."

Please, Mr. Christopher, http://www.fieldturf.com/.

So we should logically boycott all teams that play on fake turf.....?

I think field conditions are a legit factor in games, but I don't think they should prove decisive.
