BG's suspended players to resume practice

BOWLING GREEN - The seven suspended Bowling Green State University hockey players will return to the team in time to play next weekend at Nebraska-Omaha, the school announced last night.
The seven players - Ryan Barrett, Steve Brudzewski, Bryan Dobek, Mike Falk, Don Morrison, Brett Pilkington and Alex Rogosheske - were suspended Oct. 26 for a racially insensitive incident that was captured in a photograph The Blade received last week.
The seven players have not practiced with the team since their suspension. They did not play in last night's game against Notre Dame at the BG Ice Arena, nor in last week's two-game home series with Lake Superior State.
Falcons coach Scott Paluch said the seven players would rejoin the team for practice Sunday.
"We're happy. We're all very happy [to have the suspended players back]," senior captain Ryan Minnabarriet. "When we get those guys back, I think it will be huge for us. Everyone's been put to the test, and I think we came through pretty good."
The players were given unknown sanctions by the school's student discipline program; information on students is not made public because of the Family Educational Right to Privacy Act.
The athletes were found in violation of the code of student conduct, but there was no evidence of hazing, the school said in a release.
"I thought the university process was handled extremely well," Paluch said. "They worked very hard for their findings, and once the findings came through they acted accordingly. "
The seven suspended players were not made available for comment.
"We're relieved to have [this situation] behind us," BG athletic director Paul Krebs said. "We want to use this as an opportunity to change behavior through education."
Krebs said the entire team - not just the seven suspended players - will undergo alcohol awareness training. When asked if Rogosheske, one of three captains named at the start of the season, would remain in that position, Paluch said, "At this moment, yes."
Dana Hanson's power-play goal at 8:10 of the final period proved to be the difference as BG Notre Dame 3-1 last night.
Hanson corralled a rebound near the left boards and, despite having a difficult angle to shoot, fired the puck past Fighting Irish goalie Morgan Cey. The goal marked the first point in 37 career games for Hanson, a sophomore.
"We've been battling a lot the last few weeks, and we've been short a few guys," Hanson said. "It felt good to get a key goal at a key time for our team."
Alex Foster added an insurance goal for the Falcons with just 3:39 left as Bowling Green improved to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. Notre Dame dropped to 1-5-2, 0-4-1.
The Falcons jumped in front on Derek Whitmore's power-play goal at 6:50 of the opening period, but Notre Dame tied the score at 8:54 of the second on a rebound goal by Mark Van Guilder.
Senior Jordan Sigalet made 30 saves for BG, while Cey finished with 34 for Notre Dame.
The teams will complete the home-and-home series at 7:35 p.m. today in South Bend, Ind.

It sounds like the University and the coaching staff took their time and deal out what they felt was appropriate displine. Suspended from games by the coaches and probably displinary probation for some specific period of time at the University level.
Now let's play some hockey and keep our sticks on the ice.
