IKeepItReal wrote:You guys are unbeleivable. Yea you are right this team has more talent than the '04 team. Ron Lewis is no good, Hamblett is a much better player. If you think that then you need to take a relaity check. Lets take a look at the '04 team.
Netter- All-Mac 2 years
all of you say what an idiot he was and all that but lets be honest he had loads more talent than any big guy we have now

Lewis- do not even have to explain his credientials.
he scores 30 at UNC. just a bit different than scoring 30 at home vs Arkansas State

Reimold- leading scorer of the MAC his senior year
Almanson- 1st team All-Mac as a senior
Montgomery- Averages 15 a game at IUPUI
Wright- led the league in steals that year and was up there in assists

That team has so much more talent than this year's team it is not even close. No way you can argue that.

I think most of you would say that the '05 team had the least amount of talent out of any team that has been here the last 5 years but they have had the best record. Face it you guys have no ability to judge talent whatsoever and the only reason we have a winning record is because DD scheduled this way to try and save his job. The guys we have now are everyone else's afterthoughts because we struggle to find guys to fill a roster due to transfers.
Some very good comments in this thread but I disagree with most very thing that is stated above. Talent doesn't equal team. Yes Lewis is a great talent wish he would have been here for the 2004/05 season. He could have help that team win the conference , maybe. This years team isn't full of players nobody wanted. Most of the new kids that came here were recruited by many mid-major programs and a few by big schools.

If this team continues to improve I think they will win 18 games in a very soft conference this year. DD should then be giving at least a two year extension, a one year extension does no one any good. Most coaches don't make to the last year of their contract because they are fired or extented. Keep up the good work DD, as a fan I'm pulling for you and the team.

I think my strongest attribute is my commonsense. However, I can no longer parade around here claiming to be the most knowledgeable member of this board. After reading what you guys have wrote concerning this topic, I was dumbfounded. "IKeepItReal" has said everything that needs to be said, absolutely and without discussion. He is 100% correct, I just wish I could have been the one to say it. Let's root for our dear falcons, but at the same time, I think we should all try to have a little commonsense! I say we be realistic, and the best we can hope for is a group of overachievers that cover the spread more often than not.

The 2004/2005 team

The 2005/2006 team

http://bgsufalcons.cstv.com/sports/m-ba ... oster.html

Netter was on the 2003 team....Lewis was on the 2003 team... This year's team is much more talented than last year's. This year's team is athletically more talented than two years ago. We'll see about Lewis over the course of the season. He had some big games here followed by disappearances more frustrating than Jimmy Hoffa's. Netter was a talented kid, but he was the proverbial few fries short of a happy meal. I'll take the consistent effort of Lefeld over Netter's inconsistency. At least I know what game Matt's bringing. Otis Polk just wants the fries Kevin lost.

We're winning games because we're scoring more points than the other guy. Rationalize and spin about scheduling all you want to, but the team is winning games and coming together in preparation for the conference schedule. I say we end the year with 18-20 wins and we have an outside shot at the NIT if we squeeze out a win or two over that.

Dare I say it? This is possibly our best team since the days of Pardon, Matela, and McLeod. Admittedly, we've haven't had any good teams since then, and A LOT can happen between now and March. While it may be premature to say these things, I've liked what I've seen a lot.

We have decent depth in the non-post positions. When was the last time we could say that? At this point, we have no more post depth than we did last year. HOWEVER, Polk, Sullivan, and Larson could develop, and likely one of them will (...over the course of the year, a lack of post depth will kill us). Usually, we don't even have the warm bodies.

One last thing: The teams that we've brought in here haven't had much name recognition, and we haven't given this schedule much credit. In reality, the Troy, Furman, USA, and Ark State teams that came in here were all very decent teams that could compete in the MAC just fine.

IKeepItReal wrote:I love it when you guys bring up how much Coach Dakich likes this team and he loves how much they work, etc...... The same things are said every single year at the beginning of the season but at the end of the year its always the same story. I will give you a few examples from the past 3 years.

2005-06- October 14th, 2005
"What I have seen is a team that works really hard."
"When we do things one day, we pick them up the next."
- After beating Virginia Tech
""Our kids are not normal people. They always have fight."
- We finished last year with 8 straight losses

2004-05- December 28th, 2004
" We have guys who want to win more than eat."
"I have liked what our three seniors have done to set this team up to be successful."
- We finished this year 4-4

2003-04- Right at the beginning of the season
" We have not had to coahc pace of play, meaning we have guys just going after it."
"This makes coaching enjoyable."

- We finished the year 4-4

It is the same story every single year with DD at the helm and the percentages tell us that it is not going to be any different this year. It will most likely lean towards last year's record at the end of the year than the other two. The reason I say this is the talent level on this team is not up to the level of the talen level of the '05 and '04 teams.
