"it's my fault"

Post by Warthog »

Jack Carle has an editorial in today's Sentinel Tribune entitled "Falcon football facing important offseason". It's starts off with this being a frustrating year. Then he quotes our head coach, Gregg Brandon: "Everybody's looking to blame somebody. I'll take the blame. You can write it, it's my fault. I'm the head coach, so it's my fault. The performance of the team; it all comes back to me."

Thank you Coach. Glad to see you recognize the issue. Just wish he would have said this earlier when it meant something. Nonetheless, at least he is finally taking responsibility. =D>

Good for him. I'm glad he finally seems to be willing to admit that he's the problem, rather than just shoving blame elsewhere.

Now the next step is looking to see what he must change to fix things. I'm not optimistic, but this is the first step that needed to be taken.

That's what I thought. :? Then I realized he's a ForeHawk and is probably just pissed that Brandon had the audacity to wear black shoes with tan rain pants during the mud bowl.

I wonder what (who) caused his change of heart?

In any event, this is certainly a nice surprise. Good for you GB.

I've been reading this site for years and have been a Falcon fan for 40 years. On many occasions I have been tempted to respond to many posts but have refrained for one reason or another. However, it appears to me that coach B is too late in accepting responsibility for this season, last season, and surely next season, too. He has placed the blame on players, causing some to transfer. He now decides to accept fault when he sees that the natives will accept no less. It is too late now.

I cannot believe that there are still those that support him and actually believe that he will turn this around. It will never, ever happen. The success of the team after Urban left was based solely on the players and the pride and discipline that Urban instilled in the team. That is now gone. Coach B has taken this program to pre-Urban levels. He has no clue how to turn it around. It is sad but what we must expect when the school (with no money to remedy the situation) decides to give a long term contract to an unproven coach. We will have to live with coach B for a couple more years. It will be very painful to watch. Hopefully, BG will learn not to give long term deals to its coaches in the future. those contracts do nothing to retain a good coach if big money comes calling. However, it weds the coach to the school for years if he ends up being the bride of frankenstein.

I do sense a bit of defiance in his tone. He takes the blame, but not willingly. To me, that means he thinks "something else" or "nothing else" is to blame. That he really is in control of things, and there is no danger in how things have been developing.

It means he won't go quietly into the night, regardless of anything. Maybe we will get lucky, he pull a Laranaga, win it all, and bless us by getting hired by some other school.

In his tone? How in the blazing hell do you pick up someone's tone in text alone?

I got that too. It's in his first sentence -- "Everybody's looking to blame somebody."

He sounds like a little kid with his head down kicking the dirt as his mom scolds him. He often comes across that way. It's unfair to read so much into hs quotes, but IMO, he's earned it.

Welcome to the board, bobio. I agree about contract length in our situation. 3 years max should be the policy with B!G buyouts if another school wants them.

It's nice to see GB finally "owning up" to things, but I agree that the way he said things almost seems like "well I guess someone has to come forward and take the blame, but no one has in a month so I guess it'll be me". GB needs to answer more questions than that as well, such as what he plans to do with the kicking game, and if he'll take a different approach in not throwing guys under the bus.

I think I'll copy and paste this for next year in case things get bad...it'll be a nice reminder that GB at least for a moment recognized that the head coach takes the fault when bad things happen.

I also wonder if possibly that Christopher put some pressure on GB to publicly say that things fall on his shoulders, as much as GB probably thinks they don't. Now that he's said it, it's time for him to put up or shut up next year.

OK, I am glad other people brought up the "tone" of his comments. I was thinking the exact same thing after I read it. But in the interest of trying to stay positive, I just posted it at face value and didn't add my thoughts in that regard.
