This is what I was curious about. I figured one way to have a dramatic ending would be to close it with the win over Don Nehlen's Bowling Green team. The Niz wrote:My dad offered to take me to go see it tonight at a special sneak preview event, so I went. I figured if it really sucked, then at least it wasn't my money. The movie was suprisingly good. It certainly was no RUDY, but it was good. There were some tender moments, and some moments that were so cheesy I had to cringe. Mr. Macannawhatever did a pretty crazy job at portraying coach langwhatever. One thing I really enjoyed about it (and I let out a real loud whoop when it happened) was some town lady throwing up some major props to Bowling Green. I was there in my full orange getup so everyone knew who I was rooting for. On the basis of that moment alone, I would reccommend this movie to everyone.
That's part of the reason I'm a little iffy about seeing it. Spending good money to watch my favorite team in the world wear the black hat. . . eh. I'd rather fire up Paper Lion.
Marshall did beat Xavier in game two. The next week, Miami beat them in that endlessly controversial 66-6 game. In the next-t0-last game of the season, the Falcons became Marshall's only other victim.
I expect they had to have townfolk pump up Bowling Green a little to pump up the drama. That said, the Falcons weren't bad in '71. 6-4, with some pretty gaudy scores:
