OK, fine, he wasn't on the two deep roster. Then why were they recruited, and if they were going to develop into players to replace those ahead of them, why isn't their departure a set-back to a staff that is supposed to be on the verge of such good things?

Players leave, its done, oh well. But either they were dead weight, such being the case, the coaches still recruited them. Or they were disgruntled or unhappy, and still didn't feel enough of a bond to their teammates or program to stick it out. That is a problem. And now the coaches have to fill gaps that didn't exist before, which isn't good.

It happens, but it isn't good.

They were recruited because the coaches thought they could play here and the kids thought they could play here. When they got here, it turns out that there were at least two guys better than them already here.

No one is happy that they left...but I'm glad that we have at least two guys better than them in place already.

Flipper the Pragmatic, a voice of reason in a crowded room full of people yelling fire.

I'll hope for the best, maybe they'll do better than they did. I just hope they can do more with young talent than they have shown thus far.

It's like hiring anyone: sometimes they work out and sometimes they don't. It's best to find out early for BOTH parties.

I wish these kids the best. They gave it a swing at BG and wanted out. I don't see this as a big deal other than this does create some potential thinning at the line in a couple of years.

There may be motives that many of us wish to dig into. Have at it.

Flip that's just as presumptuous as saying they left because of the coaches. We have no idea how good they were as freshman because we have upperclassmen in front of them. Those upperclassmen that played this year had 2 people better than them in place when they were here too.

As Freak aluded to, Mahoney was out with a staff infection the entire year. Its pretty hard to be on any part of the depth chart when your leg is in an immobilizer.

Being a friend of Kevin's, I was pretty shocked by his transfer. He always told me, just wait till I get in there. The kid wanted to get in there and make a difference. He wanted to part of the solution. Its too bad he couldn't help us out like he wanted because he was going to be one hell of a lineman.

Edit: I'll call him up and arrange a meeting for anyone who wants to call him a pussy.

Not really...we have no idea how good they may have become as upperclassmen, but their position on the depth chart is a pretty clear indication of where they stood today.

I do share concerns over where this may put us in a couple of years...we only signed one OL recruit last year, so we need to sign a few this year.

Believe me, I'm as sorry as anyone that it didn't work out here for them. I thought Williamson and Mahoney were two of the more impressive linemen on the 2005 signing day video (Mahoney had great footwork and Williamson looked like he had a bit of a nasty streak to go with his talent and Frericks looked like an undersized DT with a high motor...like Brandon Hicks), I'm just trying to take a more dispassionatre view of the situation.

Short term, we look ok....but we need to get some quality OL recruits this year or we'll be paying the price come 2008/2009.

Find me a player who does not say "just wait till I get in there." on the bench in college football. If everyone of them does not say that, they truly need to go home. Or Eastern Illinois. Since you guys are such good friends why don't you give us a little insight into why he decided BG was not the place for him?

First off, if you read the whole thread I posted a comment that I was a little harsh in calling them pussies. What I will call them is quitters. They were brought here on scholarship to do a job that takes ALOT of work and dedication and for some reason they couldn't do it or didn't want to do it. I don't know. But what seems the fishiest about the whole thing is it wasn't one player transferring because he was unhappy, it was 3 players all transferring to the SAME college. It seems like 1 player decided that this is bu**s**t and decided to convince the other two that this was bu**s**t and they should all transfer to another school. Their quitters that didn't want to put in the work to rise in the depth chart and their taking the easy way out by going to a AA school. Again, this is my opinion and I'm sure people will respond with their opinion that I'm an idiot and so be it. I wish the players luck in the future but say good ridance. Let's bring in some players that want to work hard for our football program.

I agree. They obviously did not belong here in the first place.. so I guess this is for the best..
Frericks was probably the one who is going to be missed the most because I think he got some playing time on defense (maybe I'm wrong) and I don't think Mahoney and Williamson is a big loss to our O line.

Why do people get so vindictive and nasty when discussing what amounts to a kid's collegiate choice?

They came, they saw, they decided they wanted somethingelse so they left.

BFD...it's their life, their choice and I wish them luck

Because, to most people Flipper, this isn't just college. I wish a lot of people would realize it's just college and you're talking about young guys/girls when talking about athletics.

This site is a great way to share information, but in my opinion, at times the information is way too readily available. These student-athletes have very limited privacy, and with this site almost no privacy at all when it comes to their collegiate lives. Some people here need to take a step back and realize this before they start yelling because someone thought BGSU wasn't right for them for any reason.

I wish best of luck to anyone who comes here and doesn't feel the attachment to it that I do. It's their choice and I hope they go on to have a successful life/career wherever they end up.

That comment was not particularly directed at you. I was justt putting it out there.

Trotter; I havn't talked to him since before I found out. Who knows if I'll get to talk to him again at all. If I do I'm sure it will come up though and I'll give you what insight I can.
