Looks like Sullivan is out

Post by Warthog »

From Thursday's Sentinel Tribune:

"SULLIVAN UPDATE: Dakich said Lionell Sullivan, a 6-6 redshirt freshman, is currently not with the program and it is 'entirely an approach issue' which is 'all encompassing' by Sullivan. He declined to make any other comments on Sullivan."

From Ryan AUtello's article in the Blade today

"Lionel Sullivan won’t factor into fixing that, either. Dakich said the 6-foot-6 Sullivan, who sat out last season over academic issues and has missed two games this season, is barred from the team because of philosophical differences with Dakich.

“It might be permanent, I’m not sure if I’m ready to say that yet,” Dakich said."

We've seen this so many times, Kant v. Kierkegaard, they'll never get to the bottom of it.

Hmmm...philosophical differences? Seems like we've had a number of those over the years.

Lionel hasn't been a big part of the team this year, but I was hoping we'd see some of what he can do when Marschall went down. Oh well, another one bites the dust.

Yea...this one kind of disappoints me. I'm still hoping that they can work things out. I'm not sure how much of an impact that this will have on the team. We have won the 2 games that Sullivan has been out for. We'll have to wait and see. No doubt though...you never want to see this happen.

dakich needs to watch the movie glory road and let his players play to their strengths instead of limiting their abilities in our boring a$$ motion offense

Have you seen Sullivan play? I'll take 1,000 Millers and Larsons any day over him. However, it's Dakich's fault...he recruited him.

Lionel was a waste of a schollie, you could see that when he did play that he didnt want to do anything to help the team. Its a good thing he is out of here early and not like stevie wright. plus, nate miller is a hell of a better player too. don't we have a kid who is academically ineligible. can he play second semester or is he being red-shirted, because i have seen him on the sidelines and he looks like another athletic body.

From what I saw of Sullivan in his limited playing time this year, I don't think losing him will really hurt the team much this year. He really did seem lost on the court most of the time. Still, he had a big, athletic body. He was also a pretty well respected recruit that was thought to be a pretty good get for a MAC team. He was young and had a lot of potential to grow as a player. Losing guys like that is never a good thing. In the preseason scrimmages Sullivan actually did some good things, I was surprised by how poor he played when he got in real game action...oh well, another one gone.

I do agree that Miller is a better player right now, there is no debating that, in my mind. Still they were athletic guys that could've both been on the court at the same time. Miller strikes me more of a 3, and Sullivan had potential at the 4 spot. Plus depth would never be a bad thing.

The academically ineligible guy is Chris Knight. I'm not positive, but I believe he's in the same boat as Sullivan was last year (and Steve Wright & Reggie Harwell before him). He cannot play at all this season. If he gets his grades in order he'll be eligible to play next season, but he'll be a Sophomore. If he graduates in 4 years he can petition the NCAA to get his one year of eligibility back, and essentially play two "senior" seasons.
