BG beats Marshall, Miller scores 19, Falcons now 7-3

Post by BGSU33 »

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) -- Martin Samarco scored 24 points and Nate Miller added 19 as Bowling Green defeated Marshall 79-78 on Friday.
Bowling Green (7-3) also received 11 points from Dusan Radivojevic and collected their sixth win in seven games.

Mark Dorris led Marshall with 22 points. His fadeaway jumper as time expired fell off the front of the rim.

The Thundering Herd ( 3-8 ) also got double-digit efforts from Travis Aikens with 18 points and Markel Humphrey with 11.

Marshall embarked on a comeback after falling by double-digits with eight minutes remaining but the Herd fell inches short.

Marshall used an 11-2 run to cut the lead to four and Dorris then scored 12 of the teams final 14 points, including a 3-pointer to cut the lead to one with 20 seconds left.

Bowling Greens Darryl Clements got the ball across half court, but Marshall point guard Chris Ross forced a jump ball to give the Herd the last possession.

Dorris lost control of the ball momentarily and rushed a shot from 13 feet away. The Falcons tipped the rebound out to halfcourt, setting off a celebration on the Bowling Green sidelines.

In 27 minutes, Nate had 19 points on 7 of 13 shooting. He was 5 of 8 from the FT line, so he drew fouls. On top of that, he had TEN BOARDS, three steals, two assists and ZERO turnovers! All the while, he stayed out of foul trouble. On the road. That's a serious stat line, fellas.

In a few weeks, Marcshall will be back. With Hamblet, Samarco, Miller, and Marcshall all healthy and available, we may very well have something here. With Dusan, Polk, Clements, Moten, Larson, and Sims coming off the bench, we'll have some depth. I'm actually feeling optimistic about this season!!!

I had the same thought. If Miller can continue to contribute like that, the profile of this team changes completely.

Getting to 10 wins should be a stroll in the park for this team :-)

Look here I was there. It was a 160 minute ride for us to get there, but something was just telling me I needed to be at that game. When the game first started the refs were horrible. They couldn't breath without a foul being called. The Falcons showed big heart because they kept coming dispite the refs. I don't know what happened during halftime, but the Falcons came out firing and it was MillerTime. I love this team!!! :D

I heard Coach say that they started the game with two refs, and only added the third af halftime due to weather.

I was watching on gametracker for the first five or six minutes and I was absolutely stunned by the ammount of fouls being called on both sides. If I recall correctly both teams were in the bonus six minutes in.

I am really impressed that we won this game. We were leading by a bit early on, but I thought the ammount of fouls we were taking early on would mean that we would fold in the second half. I'm so glad I was wrong!

GO FALCONS!
