Looking over the MAC standings...
Well, look at that. BG is tied wtih Akron and Ohio for the best overall record at 7-3. Buffalo is 8-5 and Kent is 5-5. Everyone one else is under .500 including the entire West division. Is the MAC down this year? At this rate, BG has as good a shot as anyone to win the MAC...at least to this point.

Freak - Scheduling has everything to do with the overall records. I'm really excited about the potential of this team, but our record is a product of an extremely light schedule. I think around 1/2 of the MAC would be 7-3 or better against our schedule.
The Buffalo game will be a good measuring stick for this team. The Bulls almost pulled off the upset of the year against Pitt three weeks ago.

First off, I agree that wins are wins and any win is great. But look at our competition compared to the rest of the MAC that your naming (Kent giving Duke a game). I don't think we can really get a grasp on how good this team will do until we get a couple games into the MAC season.Falconfreak90 wrote:Well, look at that. And then they turned around and lost at home to Youngstown St., and they also lost to Cleveland St. To me, it appears the MAC is WAY down this year and wide open.CrazyFan wrote:Falconfreak90 wrote:(Kent giving Duke a game)

Re: Looking over the MAC standings...
The competition does not have anything to do with the record in the case of the MAC. Compare the teams that the teams who have comparable records have beaten to the ones we have beaten. The MAC is not exactly knocking off powerhouses. I expect to have 9 wins by the weekend....We will compete in hte MAC. We don't have a go for the jugular type team...but we have a "can beat anyone in the MAC on any given night" type team. If we go .500 in MAC play and are 9-4 after this weekend....then we have something around 17 wins. That is a nice improvement. Much better then I expected.CrazyFan wrote:First off, I agree that wins are wins and any win is great. Re: Looking over the MAC standings...
Before you get ahead of yourself, look at who we've played. We've played and beaten nobody. We've padded our record with a bunch of softies, and the team could either ride that momentum to wins in MAC play or implode once the level of play increases in conference games. At this point, I'm still going with the latter although I'm turning more toward the better outcome with every game.Falconfreak90 wrote:Well, look at that. Implode? No way! (mark it down - you heard it here first). We haven't played that strong of a schedule, but this team is sooooo much better than last year's squad. No offense to anyone, but Hamblet and Miller (so far so good) are a significant upgrades and the sophmores (Moten, Clements, Dusan and Marschall) are contributing. Last year it was a one man gang with Smarco. This year we have 3 or 4 guys who can score in double figures and Miller looks like a double-double guy (again only two games).bgsufalcon24 wrote: We've padded our record with a bunch of softies, and the team could either ride that momentum to wins in MAC play or implode once the level of play increases in conference games. Not ready to hang any banners yet, but this team will be competitive in the MAC.

I completely agree. You can only beat the teams on your schedule. This team has confidence and is gelling at the right time. They will actually have a legit second scoring option any night, be it Marschall, Miller or Hamblet. I just wish Samarco had another year.JWEIII wrote:Implode? No way! We also don't have the slew of problem children that we had alst year. Having the 'wright' people around is seeming to make all the difference for DD and his boys this year.
Even as padded as the schedule is, I still don't see last year's team having eight wins at this point.

Agreed, this years team flat out has a better attitude surrounding it than last year's team. You can see it in their interactions with each other on the court. This year's team is also deeper and more athletic. They will compete this year in the MAC.The Niz wrote:We also don't have the slew of problem children that we had alst year. I agree. Pittsburgh has done this for years.Falconfreak90 wrote:I posted this and get responses about how this team hasn't played anybody yet. We're playing the teams on the schedule. It isn't my or the team's problem how good or bad these teams may be.
Just enjoy the 8-3 start.![]()
GO FALCONS!!
Winning never gets old and can only make this team better mentally which they have sorely needed for years!!
