Steve Sanders is back :)

I don't have a link just yet, but word on the street is that the Browns have put Steve Sanders back on the practice squad.

It's not the be all end all, but at least he's on a roster to end the season...I'd bet they'll want him to go to Europe.

Look at the next to last paragraph, good news for Steve. Hope he sticks and gets to europe and comes back and gives the browns a go to receiver next year.

What leverage, if any, do the Browns have with Sanders now that they put him back on the practice squad. Do they retain his rights through training camp next July? Is he free to sign with another team? Does that club have to put him on the active roster in the off season to keep him should they claim him?

Just wondering the advantages for the Browns of signng him the final week of the season?

I believe they hold his rights going into the offseason. That would include being able to designate him to NFL Europe, if they desired.

Offseason rosters are rather large, much larger than the 53 man regular season roster. I'm assuming he'll be on the large offseason roster for the forseeable future.

Could be wrong though...not sure what the real deal is with these late practice squad addons.

We heard something on Sanders. I was pretty bummed when the Browns cut him and have been wondering what the heck was wrong with him that he at least didn't find another team that could find a use for his services. He has the size and hands and pretty good speed too. Was he slower than we thought or what?

This is how it works.

in a week they have no rights to him. He can sign where ever he chooses. Almost all of a teams practice squad players sign with the team they are with when the season ends to a contract with no signing bonus. Which makes the contract worth very little unless you make the team. A few days after the Browns end their season you will see a list of players in the transactions section of your local paper that the browns have signed to be part of training camp next year. This will likely include, most if not all players on the Pracitce squad. Steve is free to sign wherever he wishes once the season ends. It would make the most sense for him to sign with a team that he knows and that knows him best. That is why most players sign with the team that they just ended the season with. Now every once in awhile you will see a guy get plucked off a practice squad late in the season. His contract will end and he will rush back to the team he was with all season (on the practice squad). As soon as Sanders is signed to the Browns offseason roster he can go to Europe as a browns designee. In a week...he will once again be a free agent. However for the Browns to add him at this juncture they must want to keep him around. Expect him in Browns training camp next year. Maybe they liked him so much that they did not want to risk an injury on him in Arena Ball. i dont know.

this is the same crap that happened with cole and harris, i think he should have stayed to play a season in arena ball just so he could actually PLAY

good for sanders, but the browns need to fire romeo...he was a great coordinator...but has demonstrated a complete lack of competency that is need to be a HC.

I've also heard the Browns are going to introduce a new kid in the family and are moving to a new day and time!

Watching kids play Madden '07 is more interesting than this team. The coaching is better too. In a more humane world, they'd have taken this horse out to a field and shot it.

Funny you could substitute the word "Marinelli" for romeo, "Lions" for browns and "Detroit" for cleveland and get the same meaning for two different and downtrodden teams.
