As If I wrote it.....
"I don't have a problem with OSU as a school, any of their teams, players or coaches. It's the obnoxious attitude the majority of OSU "fans" have. Not all of them...but more than not. This arrogance makes it very easy to root against OSU in everything."
Troy Smith would be my favorite college football player if I did not have to deal with the fans.
I moved to Columbus three years ago, a huge BG fan and then OSU for everything else. I would say a distant second, but I still had some desire for them to win. It was the year after BG lost to OSU by a TD, and the year BG routed Marshall and OSU needed a referee to make a bad call to allow them to beat Marshall before OT. I said..."I think BG could beat OSU this year" to some friends in a bar one night. Keep in mind those facts. We lost to them by a dropped Td in their house the year prior and they just lost a record 14 players to the NFL. The reaction of those 5-7 people has made me hate OSU ever since. Completely unreasonable, uneducated yet arrogant fans. It wasn't a sharp turn but I have definately gone from BG fan and then slight OSU fan to BG fan and now I root for every team that is playing OSU. I just liked seeing the "My puppy just got run over by a car" look from all the OSU fans after Texas 2005. It was great.
Also I think I coined that phrase the OSU yankees. I may have stolen it, but nevertheless, I have started using it as well. It is not hard to win when you can stack the deck in your favor every single year. When is the last time OSU played a legitimate Mid Major team on that teams field?
I recently had a nice conversation with an ex roommate about OSU basketball. I miss on a lot of my predictions, and am definately biased against OSU, but early in the year I said "OSU has not played anybody, they are shooting lights out and will come down to earth when those shots stop falling." They played two games against ranked opponents and in each were handled. If you watched the NC game you know that the score was closer than the game. I stated that OSU is over-rated to this friend. You would have thought this was blasphemy. He said "wait until Oden gets healthy, then you won't say they are overrated". I then said...."well I said they were over-rated now." They are not a top ten team now....I did not say they would never be. Oden is certainly a talent but to win with that many fresh faces is not common. He got fired up and ended the conversation.
To speak sense to an OSU fan is like trying to serve garlic to a vampire. A reasonable view of their team is mutually exclusive to their diehard nature. I do not hate OSU. I hate OSU fans. And after living in Columbus I always will.

Right on guys!
I've always been the voice around here that still supports OSU. I grew up an OSU fan, and always rooted for them in football. I grew up in the BG area and my family were always fans of BG hoops/hockey, but we never attended football much, so I became an OSU football fan. Then when I started attending BG football games, and knowing a lot of the players, I became BG first & foremost, but still rooted for OSU.
This year has been sickening, however. The OSU fans, since day one, acting like OSU is the greatest team in the history of college football. I agree they are very, very good; certainly the best this year, so far. That doesn't make them among the greatest ever, in my mind. They've played a crappy schedule, and there are no other truly great teams for them to even match up with. I'll give 'em their props, but I'm sick of hearing about them.
I still root for Ohio State, but like Globetrotter said, I cannot stand their fans. The biggest reason is simply that I don't feel I'm obligated to root for OSU simply because I live in Ohio. Pardon me if I don't want to drop down and give Brutus head just for being who he is. And if I hear how classy Jim Tressel is one more time, I'll just be sick. I've quite arguing it anymore as it goes nowhere, and I get labelled an OSU hater, but Jim Tressel is not Ghandi. The guy is an outstanding coach, but I think he'd sell his children to slavery for wins. He's brought a lot of trouble onto that campus and has a less than perfect past at YSU. He's a fine football coach, but he's no more classy than the next guy.
I told my parents that I'd be rooting for Florida in the title game and they about died from shock. I'm not sure that I'll really be rooting for Florida, I just wanted to see their reaction; I'll probably just be watching for a good game. I don't really care who wins, and that's the biggest thing with OSU for me. Yeah I wanted them to beat Texas & Michigan, neither are teams I really like, but in the end I pretty much couldn't care less about OSU anymore. I'd love to see Urban Meyer win one, just because I respect the hell out of him as a coach. At the same time I'd like to see OSU win another, because I grew up as a fan of theirs. But when it comes down to it, if there were a BG basketball game that evening, I'd likely be at Anderson.

On the subject of people believing Brutus is the end all be all of mascots, I'd have to disagree. At the game down in Columbus this year Freddie and he went head to head in a one armed push up competition. Freddie seemed to be able to do about 1 million at least, while Brutus eeked out maybe one or two. Later in the year at crackron Freddie face off against the entire opposing ROTC and mopped the floor with them in the same type of competition. Brutus better grow a pair if he expects any respect from us ever again.
I too have been in the situation of being a Gator fan this year amongst all the nuts around here. Although I am and have been thoroughly displeased with Meyer since he left, I still can't help but think that somehow there will be some good BG press at some point if he keeps on being successful. Parents friends and relatives all the like look at me like I have lobsters crawling out of my ears when they hear my side of things. I'm sick of the holier than thou attitude. At the City Natitorium yesterday I saw a girl in a green Ohio State shirt and it blew my mind. I'm not a big fan of OU but it seemed to me that this particular clothing line was a blatent attempt to dispell the myth that there is even another Ohio school.

If you coined it, God bless ya...I love that term. I would think a school with an athletic budget of roughly $130 Million would be winning national titles...but they're not. BCS? Yes. But nothing in the NCAA. BG has one in hockey. I'm far from an expert on athletic budgets but I think BG's is around $14-15 Million? Can someone verify that please?
As far as them playing a legit mm team on the road? I honestly cannot think of one game in the last 30 years. Now I don't follow OSU so I can't be 100% sure. Seems almost every year OSU is playing home games for the first 4-5 weeks. They counter with "If you can make the money, why not?" Thanks capt obvious. I love the fact that UT is getting them at Browns Stadium in 2009. That is huge.
