swinger5, you're being silly...the past few seasons have yielded a treasure trove of ammo for the "Dakich should go" side of the argument. I'm supposed to look at that mountain of evidence that says DD isn't the right guy for this program and say a 9-4 record against a Hostess schedule outweighs it?

I don't think a reasonable person could possibly come to that conclusion.

Now, if the team should duplicate that success in the MAC and and earn a postseason bid, I might be inclined to think that Dan has righted the ship and deserves a least a couple more years here but that is a very big if.

I post here because I am a fan...I've been a fan for a f*ck of a lot longer than most of the people on this board. I've been on this board for a f*ck of a lot longer than most people on this board. I really dislike it when people pull this "if you aren't (insert descriptive term of choice) why are you here" bit. Its a really stupid premise and it serves no purpose other than to convince me beyond the shadow of a doubt that the person advancing it is a real douche.

I'm here because I want to be...I post because I want to...if wins against a weak schedule don't impress me, I'm going to post that opinion. And there's nothing that you or the fatcats in Washington can do about it....

wow, there really is no need to carry on like that. I was simply asking a question as to why you would put yourself through this game after game if the outcome your seeking isn't going to come about until March? Win or lose, people have the same opinions, then just repeat themselves. I did not question your loyalties as a fan, I simply stated that if you didn't care about wins, why does all this bother you?

btw, I don't usually like it when people like yourself talk about how long you've been on the boards and that gives you a free pass to dish out whatever you want and everyone is supposed to support it.

If you are going to attack me with explitives and not see both sides of the situation in a more civil maner, then I guess I was wrong about the quality of character of some of the people on here.

You really should try to respond to the arguments I'm advancing rather than the ones you think I'm advancing.

At no point did I suggest my stance towards this team or anyone connected to it was set in stone until March. I simply said I'm not making any judgements about the coach until the season is done. That seems like a far more judicious approach than being swayed one way or another by 13 games in a SOFT OOC schedule, no?

At no point did I assert that my tenure here or on the planet earth is a license to kick you or anyone else in the shins. You advised me not to post because you don't like my attitude on this subject. I really dislike being told how I should think on this topic when I've been watching MAC basketball since the days of Tom Kozelko (I grew up a UT fan) and I really dislike people telling other how they should think. You can argue with my viewpoint all you want, but you cannot tell me I shouldn't express it. Grant can do that...you can't. My use of expletives was meant to show the degree of my dissatisfaction with the knee jerk anti-intellectualism I seemed to be encountering. In retrospect, perhaps that wasn't a very smart thing to do. My apologies to all who may have been offended. If I were one of those Washington fatcats, I would claim an addiction and head off to the Betty Ford clinic...I'm nopt so all I can offer is some cookies.

Flipper you seemed to be full of poison in your tone and words, things that bad for you? No one cares that you were at Anderson Arena when the first brick was laid! A fan is a fan! Look up the word in the dictionary.

It's my opinion that several of you are somewhat disappointed with the team has had a decent start. Oh what fun it would be to be ripping DD if they were 4-9 now instead of 9-4.

Not a great effort last night but a good effort. 30-13 on fouls seems off balanced. If Moten can continue to play like he did the last two night then they will have several good offensive opitions.

I still say this team is looking at a 18-19 win season. Bring on Buffalo!

An 18-19 win season is nothing to write home about. It looks pretty good compared to a nine win season, but that's more of a measure of how far we fell last year rather than how good we are now.

You supergreatawesome fans seem to be setting the yardstick for a good season at 18 wins, Back in the olden days when you could buy leaded gasoline and have it pumped for you by an OSU grad, we thought 20+ wins and a run at the title were the makings of a succesful season. 18 wins is three or so wins away from being a .500 team. When you look at how weak our OOC schedule is, 18 wins looks even more mediocre.

And of our 9 wins 2 of them are DII teams as well. If you're gonna set the bar at a pretty mediocre 18 wins as being a "good" season, then I think you have to at the very least only count DI wins, no?

Fair enough hammb. So if they get 20 wins this year counting those two DII wins is it a successive season? I say yes. Some may disagree but some said we wouldn't win 10 games either.

If this team finished with 20 wins, I would not complain. That would mean going 11-4 in the conference schedule, and that would be pretty impressive. Given the inexperience of the team, I'd be quite happy with that, and would probably even give an extra year to Dan.

From what I've seen thus far, I'd be pretty surprised to finish that strong in the conference, but we shall see...

The team has 16 conference games plus the bracket buster game and the conference tournament games left. I don't think 11 wins yet this year is a stretch.

Well, where do I begin?
First off, all I did was ask you a question about why you post the same thing about the team whether they win or lose. I really don't know, so I wanted to find out. I wasn't questioning whether you were a fan or even telling you what to post, I just asked why you did. Simple enough.

I wasn't even trying to sway you on the subject, I was just wondering if wins matter to you.

I had no other choice but to think you were using your tenure as leverage as you repeated how long you had been posting on these boards. I know how long you have, I just wasn't sure why you had to put that, almost to say that you had the right to say the things you say since you've been a member longer than I have.

Again, I didn't tell you what to post, I was just asking a simple question.

I'm not sure, if you were directing this comment at me, why you would call me an anti-intellectual. I in no way insulted you, I merely have just been posting my opinion. These little jabs are part of the reason why I post here so infrequently. It looks like I'll have to go back to that.

You know what, Flipper, you're one of the very reasons why I was nervous about joining this board. You don't listen to anyone! Anyone who has been on the board less time than you can't get a word in edgewise. Why don't you just RESPOND to the guy's comments and questions instead of being a pain in the butt?? I for one am VERY happy with what we have seen this season. Most people were bitching about how we wouldn't see 10 wins this season. Now we're one shy of that, so everyone has to find something new to bitch about, including you. If we win, it wasn't convincing enough or we didn't have enough rebounds or we didn't make enough 3's. MY GOD, a win is a win!!! That is what counts in sports and that is what seems to make fans happy is when their team is winning. Our guys will win 10 games, and a lot of you were counting them out before the season even began. And that's being a FAN? Damnit, just be happy that they're winning! They're a very young team, very inexperienced, but they're going out there and being athletic and hauling ass and trying their best!

Seriously, you've been around so long and have been a diehard fan, act like it! Celebrate the wins while they're here, don't just sit there while we're winning and say "Once conference play starts, we'll start losing." I'm sorry, but in my book, that isn't the definition or behavior of a fan.

The team is going to break your first "benchmark" for success this season with surpassing 10 wins. When in the world will you start respecting them for proving you wrong??

Okay now go ahead and flame me for being "disrespectful" and being a new "anti-intellectual" member of the board, but I'm only following the example that you are setting as a supposedly older and wiser member of this board. Stop disrespecting swinger and acting like a child ("blah blah blah") and answer the guy's question! You and a lot of others on this board are NOT the kind of fan I want to be in my life. I am damn proud of this hoops team and I'm looking forward to seeing what they can do with their conference schedule. They show great promise and I, unlike you, don't plan on counting them out before they even get a chance to prove themselves against conference competition.

After seeing behavior of some of the older and supposedly wiser/smarter (since the perceived knowledge of a poster apparently IS determined based on the amount of time that person spends on the boards) I would fully support Grant's recent threat to shut down the boards again. The purpose of this baord has clearly been lost, so maybe some on here need a wake-up call so that it isn't taken advantage of.

I like to mock people and then when they complain, I like to mock them for complaining. It's not much and it isn't all I have, but it helps keep me centered.
