What are our chances...

Post by FalconBlue »

Miami ranked 1st in the CCHA and Ohio State 6th, are likely to finish 1st and 2nd in the tournament with Minnesota-Duluth (10th in the WCHA) and the Falcons fighting for 3rd and 4th place.
Ohio State does however have another set back...see below.

I believe Miami are likely to win the Tournament unless Miami are substantially weaker without #37 Jeff Zatkoff who is at the World Juniors.

Wouldn’t it be great to have New Year surprise by the Falcons? But don't hold your breath; I expect the same old routine from our illustrious coaches.

Montgomery Bolting OSU
CHN Staff Report

Ohio State, already struggling through a tough first half of the season that included the loss of its top returning scorer, appear set to receive another blow.

The London (Ont.) Free Press is reporting that Buckeyes freshman defenseman Kevin Montgomery is leaving the team to sign with the London Knights of the OHL.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Montgomery was a fourth-round draft choice of the NHL's Colorado Avalanche in 2006. He was also selected by London in its draft, and the article states that the two sides kept in touch.

"It throws you for a little bit of a spin," OSU coach John Markell told the Columbus Dispatch. "Our players are in shock."

Montgomery was a member of the U.S. National Development Program the last two years, and played on the under-18 team that won a gold medal in Sweden last spring. He was by-passed, however, for the upcoming World Junior tournament.

Unlike some other college freshman who leave for the CHL, Montgomery has been getting plenty of playing time. He has played 17 of OSU's 18 games this season, with one goal and five points.

"He said the hockey was great, but he wants to not have the pressures of school and playing hockey," Markell told the paper.

Excellent assessment of the past weekends hockey action, just a bummer that BG has to finish dead last.
