While I don't agree with the guy at all, it's something which brings him a lot of joy and a reason to watch the games. He justifies his opinion in a well thought out and emotional response.

You have some valid posts falconboy, you just need to give us some more reason we should consider your opinion.

I agree -- I had trouble reconciling the "Boise could beat OSU but they don't deserve the chance" comment, but you can't argue with somebody who's reason is "I just like it better". More power to him. Who are we to say what he should or shouldn't get enjoyment from?

WOW!

I don't log in for 24 hours and read a six page thread! All I have to say is, "hand me a cigarette. I've been violated by a dictionary."

Go BOISE!

Thanks to those who backed me up on letting me have my own view. I guess my biggest point is why does everyone want this total equality? Wouldn't be really bland if we all had the exact same opinion on EVERYTHING? Wouldn't it be pointless if all teams had the exact same budget and caliber players? Society isn't equal, jobs aren't equal, life isn't equal. Why should football be? You want to know why its so great when the Yankees don't make the world series and the Detroit Tigers do? Because they spend 1/100th of the time and money trying to and yet they still find away through EFFORT and HEART! Its what life/sports is all about. Being scrappy, trying to make something out of nothing! I think it would suck if BG by far had the biggest budget in all of college football. I think it would suck if BG got all the best recruits by default and didnt have to work for it. I like the CHALLENGE that we have and I like that when other schools and media like us it means for sure that we have EARNED their respect for ALL THE RIGHT REASONS, like HARDWORK, EFFORT and TEAMWORK.

I know a lot of you dont feel this way, but I just think the excitment and lure of it all would be gone if everything was equal or if we were the ones who are "supposed" to win by default. I'd rather have a team that was supposed to win because we stole a couple of recruits, had some good walk-ons, coached up some of the younger guys, played together as a team and out-schemed the opponent just like Boise State did to OU last night!
4th & 13 on PU 32yd line.. 56,000 fans up on their feet screaming, i held my breath the entire play trying to make as little noise as possible.. wouldnt u know Sharon would make the biggest touchdown catch in the history of BG Football, FALCON UP!

never fear...as i said earlier the playoffs wouldnt mean anything for bg because there just COULDNT be that many playoff games. instead of blaming the system for us or other mac teams not making it to the big games we should focus on putting out a winning team and hope the rest of the mac does the same. get a stronger conference, a stronger team and see what comes to us. we cant just dream of a world where a playoff gets introduced and bg starts winning more then ever before just to get INTO the playoff and then wins the NC. sad, flawed, but true. we need to win first, before we worry about how to get to the nc

What if.,..... What if Lets say.....A very wealthy owner of lets say the Redskins....offered boise state and OSU one game for 30 million each on January 25th?

What would stop them from taking it?

I don't understand your argument. How does creating a playoff for college football create equal budgets for all football teams. Your example of tigers and yankee completely argues against your reasoning for not having one. The Tigers have competed for a World series title, with a much smaller budget than the Yankees. There isn't a Large Market/Small Market divsion in Baseball (like the BCS/Mid-major classification in D-1A football).

BG, Toledo, Boise, whoever will never have budgets like OSU, UF, USC and what not. The NCAA tournament for college basketball has not created equal budgets for teams. Kent st made a run at the elite 8, is their budget the same as OSUs? Is George Mason's budget equal to Dukes? Is the talent at these Mid-Major basketball teams suddenly the same with the perenial powerhouse? The answer is a resounding NO!!!!! The difference is that in basketball for those 64 teams in the tournament, they more or less all have an equal chance at winning a championship. And that isn't even really true since a 16 seed has an impossible chance of winning, however they get a chance.

I don't have a problem with you not wanting a playoff, however I feel your argument isn't supported by your example and is in fact contradicted. You are right society isn't equal, however there are times when equality is given to all. Example, Rich kids might have an easier time going to college than poor kids. Once the rich and poor are in the same class, the poor kids aren't told the highest grade they can get is a B. They have an equal chance to succeed in the classroom, the poor kid might just have a harder time because he has to work 40hrs a week while going to the class. Its equality without things being really equal. Thats what a playoff would do.

That is the part of being equal that I don't like. The reference to the other things such as money, caliber players, and life in general was just an example. Never at any point did I really think a playoff meant equal budget or talent level for both teams. But it gives the "lesser teams" a much better chance of pulling off as you said a national championship. That's the part I don't like. I like the challenge of how insanely hard it is for BG to get fans, respect, a bowl game, a bowl win, and a national championship. Example, if I went to play in the British Open I wouldn't want it to be a three hole tournament. Sure I'm only a decent golfer, but a few good/lucky holes and I look better than Tiger Woods. I like that I would have to go through grueling rounds of qualifying just to get in as an alternate and then show my stuff across 4 days and 72+ holes. It's so great when someone like Todd Hamilton wins, because it was so ridiculously hard to do AND going in there were only 4 or 5 players of the hundreds that actually had a real shot at winning YET he did it!

I don't see where I'm contradicting myself like you say. So here it is in bold. I LIKE THE WAY THE SYSTEM IS, LEAVE IT ALONE! COLOR ME INSANE BUT THE FACT THAT IT IS SOOOO INSANELY HARD FOR A BG, UT, OR BOISE TO WIN A NATIONAL TITLE, IS WHAT MAKES IT SOOO INSANELY GREAT FOR ME TO WATCH, HOPE, PRAY, AND BELIEVE IN FOR A MIRACLE! SO I DONT WANT TO SEE IT MADE ANY EASIER NOR ANY HARDER FOR THEM! I CANT WAIT TO BE THE HAPPIEST MAN ON EARTH WHEN ONE OF THEM FINALLY DOES IT OR KNOW THAT IF IT DOESNT GET DONE IN MY LIFETIME THAT ITS EVEN THAT MUCH HARDER THAN I THOUGHT!

1: I don't think it is a good thing that it is "insanely hard for BG to get fans". it is a pain in the ass. How is that a good thing that it is like pulling teeth to get a good solid student and local fan base. The students and fans that support the team are great, however more would be better.

2: Again you have described a playoff in your example, one where the underdog went against odds and won. Todd Hamilton had a chance that is not provided in D1 football. How do you expect Boise to win a national championship with the current system. As long as mid-major conferences are considered "cupcake", human polls wil never give those teams a chance due to a mythical "strenght of schedule" argument. The damn game is played on grass not paper. Until BSU has a chance to play a Pac-10, Big12 schedule that is a philosophical mystery. If a system can be created that allows all schools a shot at a "national championship" occurs with out a playoff fine. For now I will argue that there is no chance any mid-major could win a national championship. So you would have to be "insane" to keep watching for it too happen.

Well then I'm insane, but I'm still going to continue watching it and enjoying it way more than you are... that is until enough people like you try to fix something thats not broken and ruin it. Now if you'll excuse me I have a 32 college bowl game parlay card to go win. Have fun arguing for a cause that is for my sake completely lost.

It's just your opinion that it isn't broken. The majority of college football fans, players, and coaches feel that it's very broken.

Don't tell NWLB, but I'm seeing a lot more websites and petitions about playoffs and BCS miscues, people are investigating the legality of the BCS more seriously, and conferences and people in charge are beginning to discuss it more and more officially.

We're on our way, and the game last night was a really big step.

Urban Meyer wanted a playoff, until they got to #2 in the BCS.

And yeah, Lloyd Carr sucks, but Mike Debord sucks worse.
