"naysayers"?? prove something on the field and no one will have anything to "nay" about.

If ND stays within 25 tonight, I'll be surprised.

Of course, they'll probably finally win one, and get first place votes in the final polls.

14-0 LSU. Quinn going to put up another stinker against a good defense.

He's not going to be much in the NFL, unless Oakland suddenly starts scheduling the service academies.

7-14 LSU. They Irish are playing with a fire under the arses now.

And the band coverage was good. But Saxy, you'll agree I'm sure, when I say, that if they are going to cover the band spelling Irish, it might be nice not to spend half the time with tight shots of the maggot line.

I've seen 9 ND home games, and love their stadium entrance. I was at the ND-WVU game during the Pre-Victorian Era (pre-my-daughter-Victoria) and they did 77 Trumbones. They had every Irish and WVU trombone player, and clearly every grad student and instructor on campus line up for it.

You know football is everything at a school, when the marching band has so much suck, they build an entire music building, more than half of which is expressly for it, and make sure its as close as it can be to the football, basketball, and hockey venues.

I've been amazed living here in Columbus. Good lord. The bloom'n band gets endorsement deals. Not knocking any of it, by god no. But wow.

After watching Brady not impress me in every game I watched this year, I'm with you.

This is only the 2nd or 3rd time I've watched Russell this year. I wasn't impressed with his decision making the first times I've seen him, but he looks good tonight. Of course his guys are wide open against that defense.

I'll say one thing though, he's been putting the ball on the money and with some zip all night. Dude definitely has the physical skillset. Mobile, HUGE, strong arm, pretty accurate. If he's got any sort of Brains he could be a star. Kinda reminds me of Big Ben or Culpepper.

I have no clue why anybody would pick Quinn over Russell if you needed a QB, other than because Charlie "God" Weiss says so. Truth be told, I'd take Troy Smith before I'd take Quinn -- and that doesn't mean I'd take Troy before the bottom of the first.

Quinn has had his days, gotten the numbers on paper, but there is a quality about his play that leaves you unsure if he is as "golden" as he is hyped to be.

I do think he is very good, and I suspect he'll do alright in the NFL.

Troy Smith strikes me as a monster in the making. I think he isn't nearly close to having finished his development as an athlete. People will instinctively try to put him in the catagory with Vic in Atlanta. But truly he is a passer first. The thing that makes him a threat, is the fact he has gotten better and better at milking the pocket for as much time as he can, before he scrambles. And when he does run, he can often still make something out of the play, by air or foot.

I would worry he gets drafted and has to start too soon, skills aside. I think Vic suffered in part because he had to fall back onto his ability to scramble. But the kid is smart, he seems to have grown up more than a little, and appears pre-disposed to not screw things up.

I think there are a lot of other QBs we will hear a lot about though. LSU's among others. The age of "block buster" QB draft years is gone. This is the era of guys turning up years after their draft.

Another year, another blowout loss for ND in a bowl game they don't deserve to be in.

Good thing they're paying Chuckie milllllllions to beat up on Stanford and Army every year. The offensive genius had a month to prepare and put up an amazing 14 points. Woo.

Forget a playoff (for the moment), my number one qualm with college football is now Notre Dames relationship with the BCS. Making them take less of the cash they were originially getting was a nice step, but some governing body should make them join a conference so they don't slut their way in to bowl games anymore.

Notre Dame being in this bowl game over Wisconsin is a travesty.

But the bowl games do not care about what would be fair. All they care about is which teams will whore themselves out more so the bowls can make as much money as possible. BCS does not stand for Bowl Championship Series, it stands for Bowl Championship Sluts. Which teams will allow themselves to be used so they can make a lot of money. Fairness be damned. Even without a playoff, if it were fair based on record then OSU and BSU would be getting ready to play.

And people wonder where Urban would possibly want or need to go next.

I think ND would have been wise to eat their pride a few years, go to some low-end games, learn to actually win a bowl game, then take the jump up.

But money talks, the Irish do and will always have the biggest and only truly national fan following. At their worst, their ratings were still better than they have been. I think the bowls are entitled to take whomever they want. So I don't have an issue with the Irish going this year. I would rather see a good game though.

I do seriously think Urban will wind-up at ND someday. And with Bama now wasting 4 mil a year for the Saban guy, the Irish will wind up paying that kind of money will only go up. If Urban hadn't wound up in the title game, and especially if he wins it, it might be a hard case to make. If Chukie doesn't get it done, and if the Irish are hunting for a new coach in five or seven years, Urban will likely be on the short list.

It is high time for the BCS loopholes for ND to be closed.
