Akron
Yeah, we had Zippy Longstocking down there for the AK Rowdies. Side note, that is the worst name for a student section I have ever heard of. The guy was trying to match wits with one of the Freaklings and lost badly. Normally that is the type of situation where I like to speak up and rip a guy to pieces, but being that I was there with my father I really had to keep it toned down.
I too was worried for the two minutes or so. I got over that really quickly though. Kate couldn't seem to find her shot tonight, if she had we might have won by forty.

And to elaborate on that a bit, he kept running his mouth for the entire game. You know, "BGSUcks" and such. Creative kid. Well, he and four or five of his friends ran their mouths for most of the first half - until we went up by fifteen or so. Then they sat down and were quiet for most of the rest of the game. The one idiot got mouthy towards the end of the game, and because they were at the same end (and of superior intellect), the Freaklings put him in his place. He actually left quite graciously, from what I could tell, wishing us luck on the rest of our season - with three or four minutes left to play. The Niz wrote:There was a kid there who, as freak so eloquently put it, looked like he was captain new years eve with glittery gold hair and hat. I liked to think of him as Goldie Locks from the classic childrens fabel with the three bears. I wanted to ask him where my porridge (sp?) was.
As for the game, Akron did look pretty good early on. Riana Miller looks like she is going to be a beast in this conference, and she was pretty dominating in the post at the beginning of the game, but being a freshman, it looked like she just didn't have very much control as the game wore on and she got into foul trouble in the second half. After about five minutes or so, our girls flipped the switch and started pouring it on. As others have alluded to, our offense wasn't the offense that we have all come to know and love for most of the game, but our defense was dominant, and was the reason that we won by close to thirty - and also why Akron only scored 32. It was great to see the freshmen play well late in the game, too. Man do we have a future with this program!
A couple of random notes:
1.) This was my first trip to the JAR. Contrary to the demands of the t-shirts, I didn't fear it, and nor was I impressed with it. I was expecting much more of it, especially given the architectural grandeur of the rec center right across the street. The fact that it sounded like a BG home game (GREAT fan turnout!), I'm sure, didn't help.
2.) I always knew that Ali Mann was awesome, but I found out tonight that she is awesome even without a shoe.

And if he hadn't been on his way out, he would've been forcefully removed. Coach Miller asked a flunky at the scorers' table to have the kid removed. The flunky's response? "Which one?" Coach Miller said, "C'mon. Who do you think?" Both he and the female official were anxious to have the kid run.Bleeding Orange wrote:Well, he and four or five of his friends ran their mouths for most of the first half - until we went up by fifteen or so. A woman in front of me actually told me that he had been thrown out, but I really didn't see anyone actually tell him to leave.jacojdm wrote:And if he hadn't been on his way out, he would've been forcefully removed. And Niz, yeah, I'm sure there have been Animals that have been more vocal than him, but when he is the only person in the arena acting like that, and he is sitting about fifteen feet from our bench? Yeah, I can see Coach asking for him to be removed.

The arena seemed to be staffed entirely by 19 and 20 year olds. The staffer that Coach Miller asked to give Gary Glitter the bum's rush only hesitantly walked towards those bleachers, but didn't make it as he stopped and talked to his buddies running the sound board.Bleeding Orange wrote:A woman in front of me actually told me that he had been thrown out, but I really didn't see anyone actually tell him to leave.

When I was listening before one of our fouls shots they said something about Miller talking to someone at the scorers table, so I guess thats what it was about.jacojdm wrote:And if he hadn't been on his way out, he would've been forcefully removed. What did this shirt say? I agree the JAR didn't impress me either when I went for volleyball, kept saying TV makes this place look way better then it isBleeding Orange wrote: A couple of random notes:

The shirts said "Fear the JAR!" A statement akin to "Fear the Roo!", another emotion that I have never felt before. What I kept saying was "I'll take the scoreboard, but give me Anderson!"BGFalconfromCincy wrote:What did this shirt say? You won't see any Akron students making trips to BG this year. Not after tonight, at least not to watch women's basketball.
The JAR was very disappointing, especially with how nice things around it looked.
Those 19-20 year old kids doing the staffing: about half of them were my classmates in high school. At least a few of us from Woodridge made the right decision and got the hell out of there.
As far as the kid getting thrown out, I loved singing goodbye as he packed up and left. Was anyone listening to the radio broadcast tonight? Did it sound like the crowd was for BG instead of crackron? Could you hear the (un)witty banner from the AK Rowdies?
