You know, Navy aside.

I understand the hesitation at the level of schools he's spent the majority of his career with, but it looks like he did a damn fine job while he was there.

How about we let him try on his whistle before we start calling him a failure?
+1, TG.

He coached a year at Navy and several years at the I-AA level. And before the I-AA bashing begins, remember that's where Tressel and, more MAC-related, Brian Kelly coached before their first I-A head coaching jobs.

And where exactly are schools like BG supposed to find their position coaches?

And you're right -- that is a killer last name. If we can hire a special teams coach named Steve Boise State, we'll be in real good shape.
Haha thats the best thing I've heard all day!

That in no way excuses your conduct.

Welcome, coach! We are happy that you are here!

i'm going to be optimistic about this...although there's some hurdles to overcome to maintain that outlook...

in the forefront of my mind im asking myself if gb's coaching hiring can be any better then his college recruiting.

second, i dont like gb being so active since im going to continue to tell myself he's taking that oc job in florida.

I will try to keep my posts entirely positive in the future. But I really don't think this is a very good reason to abandon something you built and built so well.
I don't care if you're positive or negative. I just don't like responses being contrary w/o making any case for why you're taking that position. It's like starting an argument with "Nuh uh!!!" It gets taken personally and, more often than not, the downward spiral of a thread begins.

There was a big winning QB who played at Ohio State named Johnny Utah....lets go get him. He may be practicing law now (He went to OSU law school on a football scholarship)or still in the FBI but he was one bad ass mofo. He could skydive too.
Yeah, but girls could kick his azz surfing.

I'm pretty excited about this hire. Obviously, we will have to wait and see how things turn out, but I think his resume is very impressive.

Welcome aboard Coach Gonzaga!

Has anyone seen the name Dan Mullen pop up for any head coaching positions?

No?

Didn't think so. Guess what that means?

Brandon ain't going to Florida as the OC. Time to quit being ignorant and support the Falcons - ALL Falcons (that means even the coaches).

Supporting him and hoping he does well while he's the coach is nowhere near mutually exclusive with hoping he's no longer the coach as soon as possible.

But yeah, Mullen ain't going anywhere, and most likely neither is GB.

His resume looks good and he has had lots of success along the way. One flag that I see is he seems to not stay anywhere for very long. I know that can be a red flag in the business world, but maybe not so bad in the coaching ranks. But without a long term tenure anywhere his success may be based upon others who have recruited great athletes to play the position. With that said, we have some great talent in our secordary so I look forward to seeing improvement there. Given that and his past success we could be looking at one of the countries top secondaries in the next two years. Welcome aboard coach!

Don't be surprized if we see more coaching changes before spring ball. I hope not but I think it may happen.

This is why I didn't post in this thread. The guy is coming to BG to be a positional coach. Did you expect to get some big name guy to couch our DBs?

I wish him luck, and hope he's a great coach. We have some young talent in the secondary, and if he can get the most out of it then we'll be in good shape. He may not have a ton of D1A experience, but so what? A good coach is a good coach. Just because kids in lower divisions may run a little slower, be a little smaller, and jump a little lower doesn't make it any less of the same game. Football is still football.

I can be among the most negative people on this board, won't deny it, but I at least have a reason to be negative and am willing to back my opinions up with some sort of factual evidence. We have NOTHING to believe that this guy is not the next Urban Meyer on the fast track towards a HC job. At the same time we don't know that he'll be a success. To jump on here and start whining before the guy has even met the players seems a little premature to say the least.

It is good news to see the vacancy filled by a guy who has some experience in various parts of football (Special Teams, LBs, Defensive Coordinator) and at varying levels of football. It's good news that they found the guy they wanted so soon, so he can have a hand in recruiting and help determine the type of player he wants.

Good luck Coach, and welcome to the Falcons.

For those still reading after all the inane tripe that has appeared on this thread, it looks like an outstanding hire.

He's got coordinator expereince and extensive regional recruiting connections from his stint at 8-3 Northwood team in Michigan.

These openings also bring in about 100+ applications, so that means he beat out these folks without having any previous ties or connections to the current coaching staff to give him an advantage. That's darn impressive to me.

Welcome Coach Gonzaga!

This is what I was trying to do. Spark discussion. If I did so in a mean spirited way I apologize 1987...and great points.
