You know, Navy aside.

I understand the hesitation at the level of schools he's spent the majority of his career with, but it looks like he did a damn fine job while he was there.

How about we let him try on his whistle before we start calling him a failure?
I missed Navy....sry
That in no way excuses your conduct.

Welcome, coach! We are happy that you are here!
I would like to see where someone called him a failure. Can someone give me the link.

This is why I almost never post on my own website anymore.... thanks.
I will try to keep my posts entirely positive in the future. But I really don't think this is a very good reason to abandon something you built and built so well.
I don't care if you're positive or negative. I just don't like responses being contrary w/o making any case for why you're taking that position. It's like starting an argument with "Nuh uh!!!" It gets taken personally and, more often than not, the downward spiral of a thread begins.
Point taken, but to further the discussion he provided no reasons (initially) as to why he thought it was an "excellent" addition. But still your point is taken.

I know you have changed your name, but this time will you just go away.....please. I feel like my IQ drops everytime I read one of your posts.
Don't flatter yourself, your IQ is not that high for it to drop every time I post. I post quite often.

Spart43 wrote:His resume looks good and he has had lots of success along the way. One flag that I see is he seems to not stay anywhere for very long. I know that can be a red flag in the business world, but maybe not so bad in the coaching ranks. But without a long term tenure anywhere his success may be based upon others who have recruited great athletes to play the position. With that said, we have some great talent in our secordary so I look forward to seeing improvement there. Given that and his past success we could be looking at one of the countries top secondaries in the next two years. Welcome aboard coach!

Don't be surprized if we see more coaching changes before spring ball. I hope not but I think it may happen.
Great points. It almost always happens. Coaches get better opportunities through their previous networks as other coaches are relieved of their duties and what not.

I think we are loaded with athletes in our secondary right now, the best that have been there (athletically anyway) since I have followed BG....Now they certainly need molded. Hopefully this is the guy.

They don't "need molded" they need to be molded. That verb to be is a wonderful, wonderful thing. I wish more people used it.

On the topic of Mr Gonzaga, I was hoping we'd find someone with a concentration in special teams AND lounge singing, but I think this guy will do a great job anyway.

This is why I didn't post in this thread. The guy is coming to BG to be a positional coach. Did you expect to get some big name guy to couch our DBs?

I wish him luck, and hope he's a great coach. We have some young talent in the secondary, and if he can get the most out of it then we'll be in good shape. He may not have a ton of D1A experience, but so what? A good coach is a good coach. Just because kids in lower divisions may run a little slower, be a little smaller, and jump a little lower doesn't make it any less of the same game. Football is still football.

I can be among the most negative people on this board, won't deny it, but I at least have a reason to be negative and am willing to back my opinions up with some sort of factual evidence. We have NOTHING to believe that this guy is not the next Urban Meyer on the fast track towards a HC job. At the same time we don't know that he'll be a success. To jump on here and start whining before the guy has even met the players seems a little premature to say the least.

It is good news to see the vacancy filled by a guy who has some experience in various parts of football (Special Teams, LBs, Defensive Coordinator) and at varying levels of football. It's good news that they found the guy they wanted so soon, so he can have a hand in recruiting and help determine the type of player he wants.

Good luck Coach, and welcome to the Falcons.
"We have NOTHING to believe that this guy is not the next Urban Meyer on the fast track towards a HC job."

I echoed this exact point in another thread prior to yours.

I am not sure how that post was negative. It just was not positive. I was just pointing out that I felt it was a lukewarm hiring, status quo...what was to be expected as you said. I feel like some of you were loioking for something to go after here. Also when did I whine. I never said this was not the right guy. All I said was that I did not see the greatness of the hire. When we got our DC he had DC experience at LSU. That is huge for me.

To get at another point...How did they find him so fast. Usually there is a previous coaching tie where he had coached with the DC or played for him or what not or the HC. I don't see that here. What that likely means is this guy has been on the radar for some time.

JoeFalcon wrote:For those still reading after all the inane tripe that has appeared on this thread, it looks like an outstanding hire.

He's got coordinator expereince and extensive regional recruiting connections from his stint at 8-3 Northwood team in Michigan.

These openings also bring in about 100+ applications, so that means he beat out these folks without having any previous ties or connections to the current coaching staff to give him an advantage. That's darn impressive to me.

Welcome Coach Gonzaga!
Do you think they could have weeded through 100 applications in a week. He had to have been on the radar prior.

Interesting. A backpeddling hat dance. First for me.

On to Gonzaga. Don't you just want to say his name whilst holding the 'n' and the second 'a'?

Gonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnzagaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

Sweet. Welcome to the asylum, coach.

"supporting ALL falcons"

sorry im not going to blindly support every single thing about a team im a fan of. it sounds like the arguement that says if you dont support everything the country does you should move elsewhere. i see a problem and want it rectified so that my team is better. i think this is more constructive then blaming the bcs for us not being in big games or dreaming that next year the voice of god will talk to gb and our team will go undefeated. can i do something about it myself? probably not. can i make noise over what im upset about...u better believe it. and if you think trying to shame me into saying "sorry sir, nevermind about not liking the coach" well i dont think its going to happen.

however, im also realistic enough to know i havent seen this new coach in action so until then i support him and say "good luck"

Congrats and welcome, Coach!

BTW, for those questioning his "level" of experience, how about Tressel coming from 1-AA to the Buck$? Or Frank Beamer from Murray State to Va Tech? If you can coach, you can coach. Period. Hell I'd love to see Larry Kehres of Mt Union coach on the 1-A level but that will never happen. See, they do things right in Div 3 with the playoffs, ya know.

I look forward to meeting Coach Gonzaga and seeing what he can do!
