Bingo. But while we're at it, I could use a loan, Nick.

Why does eveyone, media included, get their panties in a twit every time the "media" is "offended?" I get really sick and tired of this whole routine. It doesn't matter if it is sports, politics or cock fighting - if the media is snubbed in any way, then they must be defended and the offender liabled, slandered, and publicly humiliated.Jacobs4Heisman wrote:Saban deserves all the heat he is taking. He was so indignant and arrogant in how he addressed the media when he was still in "I'm not going to Alabama" mode. All coaches lie, but he had a "How dare you call me on it -- don't you know who I am?" attitude about the whole deal.
It seems that everyone forgets that the media is mostly made up of people who got beat up on the playground and are in serious need of copulation. Who really cares if Saban lied to the media - good for him. Just because he "lied" to a bunch of snivelling idiots with microphones doesn't mean that he kicked our dogs or personally insulted our mothers. The media is not some sort of superior entity, though they would like you to believe otherwise.

I could give two shits what Saban tells the media. What you have to remember though, is that he isn't talking to the media, he's talking through the media. When he's at that pedastal, he's conversing with the entire Dolphins fan base, the players, the owners, everybody. Why do you think a lot of people around here get all in a tither about some of the things GB says in the press?
And even if he were only talking to the media, acting like a prick is still acting like a prick, even if it's towards a bunch of pricks.

The real issue is this - members of the media should do a better job of reporting and not just regurgitating what these folks spit out.

I'm with DD. I will be rooting for Florida and Meyer. I was pissed the way he left but I got over that. It happens all the time these days. I want UF to win cuz I'm sooooooooo sick and tired of seeing, hearing and inhaling OSU stuff every way I turn. The Akron Beacon Journal has so much OSU stuff in every section of the paper this week I don't even want to look thru it. All these OSU fans here at work seem to think UF has no chance in hell of staying within 2 TD's. I keep trying to explain to them Meyer is the real deal and a master motivator and any SEC team that goes 12-1 has to be very good. Of course, trying to reason with most OSU fans is a task in futility anyway. When I get asked by ANYONE at work or elsewhere if I'm rooting for OSU and say no, I get stares like I have a cat coming out of my nose. The whole "I know you're a BG fan but you're from Ohio so you should root for OSU" BS line most of the time...Sorry. I don't root for OSU in anything at any time. For me, the OSU Yankees can suck eggs.Dayons_Den wrote:I think that is a great point, and it seems to be lost on many OSU fans I have spoken with. When I was in Ohio for the holidays I was mentioning the 2002 game and how Miami was the no-brainer a few 'fans' I was talking with just looked through me like I was speaking broken Russian.tekekini wrote:there is not much hype nationally. I think everyone believes OSU is going to win pretty easily. Thats what worries me. Everyone said the same thing about Maimi in '02 and oops OSU beat em. We'll see.
I will watch. I will be rooting for Florida and am excited to see what Urban has put together for this game. Living in SEC country I hear about the conference all the time and managed to watch a majority of Gators games this season, I feel like I know them better than I know Ohio State and am looking forward to watching the game.
Then there's the "If UF wins, it will be because they use 'trick' plays" line. Call 'em whatever you want...if it enables a team to win, so be it. I'm sure Boise State doesn't mind.
Every time Urban Meyer is mentioned, there's a good chance BGSU gets press...which is always a good thing.
Anyway, I'll be watching for one more reason. IF UF wins, I will win the bowl pool here at work. 95% of the people picked OSU...and I've been in 1st place the whole bowl season out of 68 people. Maybe OSU beats UF...or maybe UF beats OSU. we'll find out Monday night.

As tounge-in-cheek as I typed most of that, I think it is true to a certain extent. I couldn't believe the whiny little bitchfest that took place when the first lady didn't immediately disclose that she had a small tumor removed from her leg. Holy crap were panties atwitter after that! I guess I just see the same type of selfish me-me-me media attitude in this situation. To my knowledge there isn't a contract that all public figures sign stating that they will tell everything there is to tell about everything and with all honesty, but they sure do act like it sometimes.
And, of course, I'm talking most specifically about members of the Philadelphia electronic media market.

OSU hasn't beaten an SEC team in 9 bowl tries? Something like that. The dispatch was writing about it. The Miami-OSU game was assumed to be a Miami blow-out in the making, though local football fans knew that wasn't as much a given as it seemed.
As I sit here in Miami, FL, looking at the downtown skyline from my vacation hotel, (temp 74 degrees, nicely humid in a Caribbean sea kind of way) and consider the game, prior to my 7 day Caribbean cruise.....actually, I've got nothing, but it was a way to rub in the fact I'm on vacation!

Lemme doya one better! I'm posting from the lobby in the port, awaiting the start of boarding here in Miami! 16,000 people leaving from the five ships in port, with Navigator and Voyager from RCI, the Century from Celebrity, and two giant milk cartons from Carnival awaiting the 16,000 people set to leave!
DT Miami is deader than a door nail weekend mornings.
And my car got a staggering 47 miles to the gallon from Columbus to Miami. I was waiting for it to collapse when I parked at the hotel, ala the Blues Brothers. Fine mid-90s Japanese engineering!
I'm feeling the LOOOOVVVVVE Here today! Actually the weather has been amazingly good this year. But I fear the payback mother nature has in store for us come late winter.

I don't know which team to favor in this match-up. I like Tressel. He's very good coach with a good Ohio football pedigree. There is also a great many Ohio boys on the buckeye team. Conversely, I don't care for the buckeye fanbase on principle.
I like Meyer as well. Yeah, he's screwed a few teams on his way to the top, but he did elevate the BG program quickly. Second, my nephews go to Meyer's high school in Ashtabula. Conversely, I despise the state of Florida. If there is anything more over-rated than Notre Dame, it's the state of Florida. Also, I'm tired of hearing how Florida football is better because of the athletes involved. Football players beat athletes.
I'll just pull for the refs.
I can't predict the score, so I will predict the excuses employed by each fanbase if they lose.
If Ohio State loses: "You shouldn't be allowed with win with that pathetic gimicky offense."
If Florida loses: "The refs lost the game for us."
