Delaware beats Hofstra

Post by Jacobs4Heisman »

Delaware edged conference foe Hofstra, 59-56 tonight. Hofstra was 11-1 and had an RPI in the 20s. They were also receiving some votes in the polls (28th in AP, 32nd in Coaches). I think Delaware may end up being our best win when it's all said and done, even better than Temple and Indiana.

UT-Arlington blew out Central Arkansas by 30, but Indiana lost in OT to #18 MSU at home by 8. Wish they could've pulled that one out.

#23 Arkansas was exposed a bit at Vandy, and lost by 37 while giving up 98 points. More votes should be swinging our direction.

I was following the IU score on ESPN's bottom line, both for ranking (MSU) and RPI (IU) purposes. Too bad they couldn't hang on.

Along the ranking thoughts....

Today -- #22 Pitt lost by 24 to unranked Rutgers

#18 MSU lost by 40 to #1 Maryland

#17 Texas A&M lost by 3 to unranked Kansas State

#21 Cal is getting blown out in the second half by 30 to #12 Stanford

#20 Marquette and #24 Depaul play later tonight.

Also, #13 Louisville lost to unranked Providence this week. That means 6 ranked teams in our neighborhood have stumbled this week, with more to possibly come tomorrow. I think it's safe to say that come Tuesday, we'll be the highest ranked MAC school in history.

It looks as if there will be a lot of movement in both polls. We held serve rather nicely.

Looks like UK gave OSU a really good game, losing 53-51 in columbus. Its UK's 4 loss of the season. They have been playing good, but also kind of up and down. [/i]

I saw that score -- too bad they couldn't pull it off.

A couple streaks of note. LSU hosts #15 Georgia tomorrow. If they lose, the Falcons will own the longest home winning streak in the nation.

This team has also won 27 games in a row vs MAC competition, tying some teams from the Fran Voll era for the longest in school and league history. A win vs. the Golden Assclowns on Wednesday would set the new record.

Here are the previous high water marks:

Associated Press: Bowling Green was ranked 19th on March 16, 1993.
USA Today: Bowling Green was ranked 20th on March 1 and March 16, 1993.

I dug that out of Bowling Green's media guide.

Yup -- 19th is the highest rank in either poll, and I'm pretty sure we'll get higher in the coaches poll this week. Quite an accomplishment.

Today is also looking very good for us. Duke won by over 30 again. #14 ASU is tied with Washington midway through the 2nd. #10 Vandy is down 8 to Ole Miss with 15 min left. #23 Arkansas is only up 2 on Miss St. at halftime. Georgia is beating LSU by 5 at halftime. And #11 Purdue is down 6 @ Texas at halftime. Hopefully a couple of these teams will go down.

ASU came back and won by 5

#10 Vandy lost by 10

LSU came back and beat UGA by 2. We're still second.

#23 Arkansas lost by 10.

#11 Purdue lost by 3

That makes BG one of the 5 or 6 teams out of 10-25 in the rankings that didn't lose this week. The rankings should have a very different look to them this week.

That's good news. I expect BG to climb a spot or two in both polls.

I'm thinking maybe a little bit more movement. This is a list of the teams ranked 10-25 in the AP poll that didn't lose this week:

#12 Stanford -- beat up on Fresno and Cal

#13 ASU -- Beat up WSU, squeaked over UW

#16 GW -- tough to lose when you don't play

#18 Marquette -- Beat up 'cuse, edged Depaul

#24 BG -- you know the story

That it -- that's the list. I'm cautiously hoping for some big movement -- maybe 3-4 spots in the AP and 2 in the coaches.

Maybe more like 3-4 in the Coaches and 1 or 2 in the AP as the AP is still slow to give us major love.

Well, we jumped all the way to #18 in the AP so I'd say they're starting to come around
