Future Schedules update

Post by Warthog »

Big story in Friday's Sentinel Tribune about football scheduling. I'll try to condense it down and hit the high points.

We currently have Boise St. and Fla Intl at home and Pittsburgh on the road. But don't bet on the FIU and Pitt games happening. The Pitt game is the back end of a 2 for 1 from 1999 and 2000. The FIU game is up for grabs with them wanting to move there game with Miami(FL) earlier in their schedule.

Some published reports have us playing at Minnesota on Sept 1 (the original date for the Pitt game). Playing at Minnesota would help ensure they would honor their commitment to play at the Doyt on 9/6/2008.

If the FIU game falls through, "one possibility has BG hosting Navy in 2007 and playing at Navy in 2009." From what our Navy insider has said, looks like this is pretty solid now. "Christopher likes the opportunity to play Navy, but added teams from the Sun Belt, including Western KY, and several from the WAC are attractive because those conferences are comparable to the MAC,"

Boise St at the Doyt on 9/29/2007 is still a go. We are going back to Boise on 9/27/2008.

A game at Boston College next fall is also in the works, with the MAC helping facilitate that contest. So the new proposed schedule has us @ Minnesota, @ Boston College, and home for Boise St. and Navy. That is a pretty solid schedule, IMO.

We still have a two game series scheduled with Wyoming for 2008 and 2009.

MAC Schedule:
2007 - OHIO, AKRON, TOLEDO, NORTHERN ILL, @Miami, @ Kent, @ Buffalo, @ Eastern.
2008 - MIAMI, KENT, BUFFALO, BALL STATE, @ Ohio, @ Akron, @ Temple, @ Toledo
2009 - AKRON, TEMPLE, TOLEDO, CENTRAL, @ Miami, @ Kent, @ Buffalo, @ Western.

Actual dates for the 2007 games are to be completed by Feb 1, according to the MAC office.

Miami and FIU announced that they're playing on Oct. 6th, I believe. When were/are we scheduled to play them? Seems like there's still plenty of time to get a game in with them in September, and if we take a home game vs. Navy instead of Pitt, there's three home OOC games right off the bat.

I'd love to make the Boise State game (for some sadistic reason), but routing the honeymoon through BG might be easier said than done.

Go to the game TG. Just book the honeymoon suite at the Best Western Falcon Plaza. How romantic is that, I ask.

In all seriousness, I don't think anything is more romantic than a night at Brathaus followed by a night at the Buckeye Motor Inn. :-D

That has had the desired effects before, and for many people I suspect.

That's great news. Navy is a very solid team and a nice "name" to get to the Doyt.

If we can manage to keep Boise State on the schedule, we will have a very attractive 2007 home schedule. Ohio, Akron, NIU, Toledo, Navy, and Boise State - 4 bowl teams plus the 2005 MAC champs and our arch rival. If we can't draw a legit 15k against that schedule, we never will.

If Boise stays on the schedule (I think they will), I see no reason why this game shouldn't be sold out.

Here's a reason, Boise is a senior dominated team this year and will lose alot of experience next year. And lets be honest, the average BG fan doesnt know boise state from south east misouri state.

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't the game against SEMO draw one of our biggest crowds in a few years?????

SEMO was the last time we drew over 20,000. And I hate to be disagreeable, but the notion that Boise State will be thought of as some sort of obscurity by anyone with even a casual interest in football is ludicrous.

That is our biggest home OOC game.....EVER.
