Alright... lets get down to it...
I have played on a carpeted floor... but I wont tell you wear...
I have played on a rubber floor in Junior Highschool at Ottawa Hills... its an ok surface... and by ok.. its just ok enough to play on with their rubber tiles and corners protruding.
The floor Dakich likely wants is those floating spring loaded floors that give ever so slightly when you run on them. Springfield highschool has that type of floor, I would bet that Perrysburg HS now has it. The floor you wouldn't think is that big of a deal, but after playing on the Springfield floor, we felt as if wecould play 2 games in a row and not one, as it was so much easier to run up and down.
DD may be pissing and moaning, but he is pissing and moaning over something worthwhile... it isn't as if he asked for a new AA.

Somebody mentioned that the women's coach hasn't said anything but I seem to think he has pointed out the inordinate amount of knee injuries his team has incurred the past few seasons. I know it has been proven that women's hoopsters are more prone to knee injuries, but I can't help but think that a new, knee-friendly surface could only help to minimize some of these injuries that face our top 25 women's program.

Women's knees are built differently (at least that's what I learnt a long time ago when I sold fitness equipment) ...in men the joint fits together in a rounded fashion. In women it's more of a knotched structure. There's less give laterally with that structure, so more stress is placed on the surrounding ligaments and tendons when the joint is put through the rigors of athletic competition.
That's proabably why the women get more knee injuries.

I certainly agree and note that in my post. My next logical jump in the thought process would be that a new, state of the art floor, could only help limit that already injury prone female knee, right?Flipper wrote:Women's knees are built differently (at least that's what I learnt a long time ago when I sold fitness equipment) ...in men the joint fits together in a rounded fashion. Or would the thinking be that the knee injuries will still occur because of the structure of the female knees regardless of the surface played on?

I'm not sure if the reason some of you are debating the idea that a new floor might help to PREVENT, not stop injuries, is the fact that Coach Dakich said it, or that you want to believe in the idea that "if it was good enough for the old time players, it good enough for these kids". As someone who has been on different floors, I can honestly tell you that the newer floors with more give are a big upgrade for the players. I can't find a reason that the administration wouldn't at least look into a new floor.

Let me clarify....
I believe DD made mention of whats under the hardwood and not so much really the hardwood itself. I don't believe anything is wrong or unforgiving about AA's hardwood itself but what is directly under it which DD said was indeed plain old hard concrete and apparently most schools nowadays have something entirely different directly under the hardwood.
So now that we got that, you funny guys can stop with the mocking "shag carpet" ideas.
