Azzanni To Become Assistant Head Coach At Central Michigan

Receivers coach returns to alma mater

Jan. 9, 2007

Bowling Green, Ohio - Bowling Green State University football coach Gregg Brandon has announced that Zach Azzanni, who has spent the last six years at BGSU, including four as the wide receivers coach, will leave the Falcons to become the assistant head coach/receivers coach at his alma mater Central Michigan University.

"Zach is a graduate of Central Michigan and he is very excited about the opportunity to return to his alma mater," said BGSU coach Gregg Brandon. "Over the past six years, he has grown so much as a professional and has meant a great deal to our program."

Azzanni came to BGSU and served as a graduate assistant in 2001 and 2002. In 2003 he joined Brandon's staff full time and tutored some of the best receivers to ever play at BGSU including record setters Charles Sharon, Cole Magner and Steve Sanders.

Azzanni played wide receiver at CMU from 1994-99.

Crap...I mean congrats to the Azzanni's. Assistant Head Coach is a nice step up.

This is very disappointing. IMO, he is the best coach on this staff. My family owes this man and his wife more than we could ever repay. If it was not for him and his wife I doubt if Corey is even at BGSU anymore. We are losing one of the best and it will be very difficult to replace him. His knowledge, patience, dedication and hard work combined with Corey's work ethic is the reason Corey is where he is as a wide receiver today. Coach Z deserves much of the credit for many of the great receivers we have seen here at BG over the past 4 years. I was looking forward to him getting a chance to work with Freddie as a receiver over an off season. I was sure he would build Freddie into another great BGSU receiver.

I am really going to miss him and I wish him the best. I will follow his career where ever it takes him. Good Luck Coach, you have a great future ahead of you.

Incredible to hear how great he was. In invaluable insight into something we as fans can never reallly have a firm grasp on. This is not excellent news for us but it is excellent news for him. He could be CMU's Amstutz."

That pretty much sums it up. Coach Azzanni is getting a great opportunity and I wish him the best at CMU...except when BG plays them. LOL.
He has always been a top notch coach here at BG. I certainly am sad to see him leave.

Congrats on the opportunity Coach.

Big loss. Aside from being everything Spart43 said, he knows the in's-and-out's of the program and will be taking that knowledge to a conference rival.

This is reminiscent of Miami's frequent raiding of the NIU staff by offering promotions in title, i.e. Pat Narduzzi from LB coach to DC & DeAndre Smith from RB coach to 'Run Game Coordinator.'

Being a CMU grad probably put us behind the 8 ball in attempting to retain him.
