NCAA wants to ban male practice players

Post by Jacobs4Heisman »

I know there are some people around here who have been practice players for our team. They probably agree with me that this is pretty retarded.

A sidebar in this column sums my feelings up pretty well.

As a women's college coach, this is the dumbest thing that I have heard, ever! We use male practice players the day before our games. We use them as a way for everyone to get to play against faster competition. It gives our players an opportunity to face stronger players, getting them ready for the next game. The guys run the offense and defense of the upcoming opponent, so everyone gets a chance to get ready to play against it. If this goes through, it clearly shows that the NCAA has no clue, not like they haven't already proven that though.

I don't see it as a problem if ALL the schools are allowed to do it, and I believe they all do. It's not like it gives one team who uses men an edge over another team that doesn't. They have an equal opportunity to use men as well.

Ridiculous.

Michelle Voepel really ripped the committee a new one in her column. And deservedly so, what a bunch of idiots.

It seems the feminists (banning practice players to get women more playing time) are almost contradicting the feminists (making women's sports better).

That annoys me. Can't you find anything better to do with your time/life.

As a former practice player, I can honestly say that I know we helped to make the girls better...and it certainly did NOT make the bench players worse! It not only made it so they went up again tougher competetion, but also taught them how much harder they need to play (even in practice) to take it to the next level.

Sorry to dredge up the old thread, but I found a really good read about it from OU's coach.
