Miami hangs tough but....

Post by Falconfreak90 »

BG is too powerful as the Falcons win #15 on the year.....64-56.

Miami hung very tough the whole way. We had to earn this one. BG now 15-2, 5-0 MAC. If I were Coach Miller, I'd have the team shoot FT's til the wee hours of the morning. We missed way too many FT's. :x

30 straight MAC wins! Up next, CMU at AA Saturday.

GO FALCONS!!! DIP THE CHIPS!!!

FT's seem to be a real problem in BG basketball this year.

Like I told the chat room (where the heck were you two?), Miami is a talented team and very well coached. I'll take an 8 point win on the road against that team all the while holding them 19 points under their season average.

Good win!

Sorry I missed the chat, I have none of the java doo-dads on my computer so I have no access to it. I've been there once and that was because my gf's computer was in the room. I am so technologically challenged it isn't funny.

Download IE7 or Firefox (www.mozilla.com). They both are Java enabled. And Freak, you have no excuse.

Miami is a good team. They are 9-9 now (3-2 in the MAC), but they did beat Michigan at home. Michigan isn't that great of a team this year, but from looking at Miami's roster, they are much bigger and faster than Miami. Much like our performance against Duke, that kind of win is evidence of how well coached a team is.

Ahhh...but fellas I do have an excuse. Mrs Freak is in Charleston, WV, on a business trip so the Freak is flyin' solo tonight. There was a snowstorm rolling thru Twinsburg around quitting time (actually, the whole day) and I got home a good 40 min late. By the time I got the boys dinner, cleaned up and homework done....

Let's just say I had the internet cast up extremely loud popping in for a score update. Sorry fellas, even the Freak has limitations in extreme cases. LOL.

I think Miami is a very solid team. Two grind 'em out wins in a row and we didn't shoot well at all tonight. There are going to be off nights but the D is what wins games. And as long as our D can continue to play lights out, the scoring will be back. EVERY team the rest of the way wants to be THEE team that ends this streak. Bank on getting everyone's best shot the rest of the way. Those missed FT's could come back to haunt us some day.

GO FALCONS! BEAT CMU!

It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Phase 1 of the MAC schedule -- complete.

Next up is a run through the tough West. Ball State, NIU, and the EMUs will be very tough games. Western has the top scorer in the league, Central is much improved, and Toledo is a rivalry, even though they suck.

I'm very happy to get two tough road wins, but this team will need to play better and get healthy to run the table again. We're a better team than last year, but most of the MAC is as well. We need this home game against the chips to get back on track. Time to pack AA, and help the ladies get back on top of their game.

More importantly -- SKUFCA!!!!

Just back from Oxford. These posts hit it pretty well. Miami played hard most of the way. Our defensive effort in the first 16 minutes of the second half absolutely won this game for us. Liz blocked four shots- all gimmee layups without her being there, reaching from behind etc. We forced some turnovers in that period too.

On the other hand.............we missed more makeable interior shots than normal. By a mile. As you can tell by the stats, we couldn't throw it in the ocean from three EXCEPT for two huge threes from Liz and Ali at key points in the second half. And the foul shooting. If we shoot 70% not only do we win more comfortably, but the pressure on Miami would have been so great that I believe we would have easily won by 20 plus. We also did not rebound/block out well at times- for several possesions in a row in each half.

Very small crowd to watch an athletic and generally entertaining Miami team. BG had about 75 fans there. The only Miami students watching who weren't cheerleaders, dance team or band was the Redhawk men's team. Literally no student support at all.

As posted elsewhere, a road win is a road win.

Go Falcons!

Now before I start, don't react until you read all I have said. I like the fact we had a close game, and I want several more. I also want games where we don't score much and have to come from behind. I am not saying I want us to lose a game, because I don't. But I want some real game preparation for what we might run into in the NCAA tournament. I want this team to know how to respond when the shots aren't falling with time running out and they are behind. Experiences like that will help us in March. I think cruising th rough the MAC last year hurt us in the tournament when things were not clicking on all cylinders. Other than that, I will hopefully be in BG by game time Saturday and I am looking forward to seeing the women for the first time this year. GO BG!!!!!

Agreed. I would rather have multiple heart attacks during a few games during conference play than see the team bow out of the tourney in the first round. The sad part? I absolutely mean that. Does that mean I am deletreriously obsessed with BG sports, or is that a healthy obsession? :-D

Totally agree that these games are good things for the team, but we didn't exactly destroy everyone last year. We had a bunch of close (ugly) MAC wins last year (@KSU, @CMU, WMU, EMU, @Toledo, @Ohio) , and we'll have some more this year. The MAC was down a bit last year, outside of the 3 or 4 power teams, and a lot of the middle tier schools had devastating injuries that made them a little easier to handle. This year, the MAC is much more balanced and much stronger as a whole. Luckily, we're obviously a better team as well.
