In the 40 years that I have been a Falcon fan, I have never seen the three coaches of all the men's major sports be so bad. It hurts even more that it happens all at once. Let's face it, DD's teams will be DD's teams. He has had more than enough time to right the ship. His team will never win a conference championship. Looking at the most recent scholarship offer only verifies that. Hopefully, any offers he makes now can be rescinded when we get a new coach.
I'm not happy with mediocrity, by any means. There are many people on this board who know me, and each and everyone of them will tell you how deeply I care for BGSU, and how integral I believe the success of University's athletic programs I believe to be intertwined with the continued success of the University as a whole. Nothing will ever make me change this point of view.
I respect the fact that you have been a Falcon fan for a long time, but I believe that to be a non-issue when it comes to wanting what is best for the institution, so why bring it up? Furthermore, I understand your concerns about BGSU Hoops under Coach D., and I certainly don't have a personal relationship with the man that would blind me to problems with the program that he is leading. As I said several posts ago, were it not for the vehement, and often unfounded, resentment of Coach D., I would probably feel very differently about this situation than I do right now. So he went to WVU, realized that he made a bad decision? GET THE F**K OVER IT. I'm sick and tired of hearing about it.
When Dakich came back, he had players that believed in him for a couple of years (the upperclassmen). When they graduated, a couple of egotistical underclassmen (when he went to WVU) took umbrage to his leaving, and they no doubt made their feelings known to not only their fellow players, but recruits as well. Fault Dakich for that if you want, but the fact of the matter is that we are not only dealing with 18-22 year-old guys here, but we are also dealing with 18-22 year-old guys that play a sport that (in recent decades) inherently instills a "me, me, me!" attitude in players. Recognizing the fact that Dakich is not simply a figurehead, but is a man, with a family, who has his own human concerns, I can not say that it has been his "stubborn nature" (as is an oft-accused character trait around here) that has lead to the current position of BGSU Hoops.
Now, as I said before, I don't know how I would feel about this situation were it not for the incessant drubbing that Dan has received around here. As I said, Dan is a human being and not the automaton that some around here would make him out to be. If you don't agree with his logistical decisions (as in the case of hammb), then great! I can totally respect that. But, if you are going to come at me with only a statement resembling "well...uh...Dan's tenure has been mediocre," then you aren't going to get a wink of sympathy from me.
And your last two sentences, bobio, are simply the pinnacle of ignorance.
