I think the Navy game is going to be Nov 10. According to Nationalchamps.net (I know, not the best source), Navy's only open date in Sep/Oct is 10/6 and that is when we have BC. And I think I read over at the Mac boards that the game would be in November as well.PGY Tiercel wrote:September/October-Navy (home)
FWIW, Navy plays Notre Dame the week before on 11/3. So we may catch BC looking ahead to the Irish and get Navy after being beat up by ND.

I'll be the dissenter here ... going .500 in OOC with that schedule will be a minor miracle. Not that I want us to schedule four patsies every year, but it would be nice to have one "gimme" on the slate.PGY Tiercel wrote:I think it will be Boise, BC, Navy and Minny. I can live with it because two of them are at home. Still, with the way the team played last year, 0-4 is a very distinct possibility with that schedule. I'd go so far as to say we'll be double-digit underdogs in each of those game except Navy, and we'll probably be around +7 against them.
Hopefully we can stay healthy through that run. I will say that I'd much rather have this than the opposite of 4 crappy games or 3 games on the road. BSU and Navy should definitely help attendance if they're on Saturday. Of course, I'm willing to bet at this point the Boise game will be a weekday ESPN2 game. I'm not sure if we'd come close to selling it out at that point. Depends on a lot of other stuff.
Overall -- I'm happy with the schedule, even though it'll be tough to come out of it looking very good. I want to see us playing as many good programs as we can. I'd rather lose by 20 at home to Navy than beat Western Carolina by 30. Anyways, at this point in the program, is there a single D1A program we'd consider a gimme?

That sounds reasonable. I think I had seen it somewhere about being in November as well.Warthog wrote:I think the Navy game is going to be Nov 10. If we really want our football program to get better, then we need to play quality opponents (not FIU!!!) A trip to FIU is a great late season recruiting trip and a nice change from NW Ohio late Fall weather, but as far as your team getting a strength of schedule boost or playing a decent opponent, forget about it.
We should be jumping up and down that we (might) have this non-conference schedule. BC looked beatable last year at CMU. Boise will still be tough next year. Minnesota annually underachieves. Navy was tough this year too, but what about next? I'm really pumped up. I'm hoping that some of our players are ready to take a few steps forward this year, we shore up our special teams, and decide to throw the ball to spots that our guys can make plays. If the Field Turf rumor is true, coupled with the opening of the Sebo Center and the good looking schedule we have, then this 2007 season looks to be an exciting one!

Close. We actually need to beat quality opponents, something we have been unable to do for two years now. It's not an either-or situation.falconfan1999 wrote:If we really want our football program to get better, then we need to play quality opponents (not FIU!!!)
Take this hypothetical OOC schedule:
September 1-SE Missouri State (home)
Sept 29-BSU (home)
September/October-Navy (home)
October 6-BC
The difference between BG & CMU was vast. Not sure they would have looked beatable against the Falcons.falconfan1999 wrote:We should be jumping up and down that we (might) have this non-conference schedule. BC looked beatable last year at CMU.

I like that OOC sked myself. If this it the sked, Minny and BC won't be in the travel plans for the Freaks but could end up on an ESPN channel or PPV.PGY Tiercel wrote:I think it will be Boise, BC, Navy and Minny. Losing FIU is a good thing in my opinion.

You don't know that. I didn't think CMU would have had a chance that early in the season with a young QB either. You never know how a young team responds. We didn't look that bad against Wisconsin in our first game. Certainly better than we looked most games last year. I like our chances for success more when we are playing quality opponents more so than when we are playing teams like FIU or even Temple....1987alum wrote:Close. To increase your chances of beating quality opponents, you need to be accustomed to playing them. SE Missouri doesn't really help us to prepare foe THE Ohio State or even Northwestern. That's what I'm saying above. To get the program accustomed to playing at a high level, we need to be playing (and beating) teams that play at a higher level than what we have been playing at for the last two years.

IMO, this is exactly the type of OOC schedule each MAC team should shoot for each year.
1) 2 games at home; 2 on the road
2) A Big10 team, a Big East team, a WAC team, and an independent (2 BCS teams and 2 non-BCS teams - nice balance)
3) All Division 1-A
4) All are winnable (i.e., not against the premier nat'l programs)
That one of the home games is with a military academy is a bonus!
