Bottom line - the game itself is not going to be that much different. It is basically like grass. For a durable football surface, this is better than a grass field. A properly maintained grass field might be better as a playing surface, but it isn't as durable.
Instead of dodging divots and ruts in the ground, they won't have to. It will look nifty, but it won't allow grazing from the opposing cheerleaders anymore.
The world isn't going to end, our logo isn't going to turn anyone homosexual, our uniforms aren't going to dissuade anyone from attending the university, and, IMHO, anything more than disappointment is an inappropriate overreaction.

Ok, I will throw my two cents into this. I like the fieldturf. It makes for a stable and even playing surface. It looks nice.
I believe that recruits are looking for schools that have fieldturf. I know when Corey got to play on one in high school it always felt special to him. So I think it helps recruiting. With a new field and the completion of the Sebo, the Doyt will be much more appealing to a recruit.
Corey's impression of the Miami game was that it was the worst conditions/game he has ever played in and he does not want to ever play in conditions like that again. With that I am sure the players would welcome a field where they do not have to worry about those types of conditions.
Northeastern Ohio does not provide for a great weather environment for growing and maintaining a grass field thru the end of November. Yes, it can be done but there is a huge cost and effort required. I am glad we did not play toledo at home this past season, what would that field have been like for that game. Not that playing in the glass bowl was much better.
As a fan, yes you like the grass, but as a player and/or recruit you like the field turf. Who wins out in that arguement. I side with the player/recruit, because if we lose good players that don't want to play in the mud of a miami game then we lose fans because we don't field the best team possible. They will be able to practice on it in the spring and have their scrimmages in the Doyt and not have to worry about the grass.
I have nothing against anyone on this board. I appreciate everyone that posts here and I love their support of Falcon athletics. I respect their opinions even if I disagree. But, its absolutely ridiculous to think that someone would not continue to support their Falcons just because they no longer play on natural grass. Are you a true Falcon at heart? You support more than just a grass field, you support everything that BGSU stands for, don't turn your back on them because you disagree with the playing surface, that is just shallow.
Love your Falcons, Love your Players (and coaches) and do what is best for them.
Lets put forth the best possible professional appearance we can. Finish the Sebo and put down a nice new fieldturf field. And maybe new jerseys??

I agree mostly with Spart. Except I'm a fan and I LIKE the field turf. Natural grass looks like (bleep) in the Doyt. The weather conditions don't support it and the Miami game was an absolute joke.
4th & 13 on PU 32yd line.. 56,000 fans up on their feet screaming, i held my breath the entire play trying to make as little noise as possible.. wouldnt u know Sharon would make the biggest touchdown catch in the history of BG Football, FALCON UP!

First off... whoever said 90% of the teams in the country now have field turf... is an idiot... there are entire conferences that do not play on field turf... namely the SEC... all ACC schools play on grass with the exception of BC... I believe every team in the state of California plays on Grass (USC, UCLA, Cal, San Jose State, Fresno State, San Diego State, Stanford, and whoever else I might have forgotten about. So with just a rough guestimate maybe 65% of teams play on a synthetic surface of some sort... again... at best!
As for Bowling Green and the swamp... please tell that to my parents who have to water their grass endlessly because of the amount of sand that their property sits on... and no they don't live on Sandridge road.
If you have the proper maintenance people and the CORRECT type of grass, you can keep a grass field in great condition all year round, but it takes a tremendous amount of work. Proper drainage seemed to be the biggest issue with that field and the surrounding area!
That interlocking BG and falcon head should be dropped into a garbage disposal, some BG student must have been high designing it, and the fact that it ever made it to any sort of merchandise apparel or other surface is sad.
BG has a classic logo that should never have been improved upon.
Somethings that improve over time are great... light bulbs, computers, cars (but they aren't getting better mileage)...
others should never be touched... the Coke Formula, McDonald's fries, and BG's logo... you are ruining an instution!

personally i'm not big on mcdonalds fries. also they proved you wrong when they improved on the logo. listen the old logo is ok...but its so boring. its a relic of the 60s and it shows. the new logo keeps the old logo's spirit and polishes it up a bit. now as for the interlocking bg ... yea that one sucks. we have more logos then almost anybody else... its like every logo proposed got accepted so as not to hurt anybody's feelings. stick with the traditional for academics and stuff and the new logo for sports. done. finished. 2 logos...that are basicly the same. I love 'em both, but I think more people outside of the university will find the retail logo more appealing. That's what gives it the edge for me -- universal appeal. This is marketing we're talking about, after all. The old one is cool and unique, and carries a great sense of history (that few outside of the univ. know about), and the new one is cool, more modern, and less unique.
