Omar works out for Kansas City

Post by UK Peregrine »

Apparently Omar Jacobs worked out for the Kansas City Chiefs this past weekend. He still seems to be drubbing up a little interest in the NFL ranks.

Good for him. Maybe he'll grab their third QB spot over the unbelieveably overrated Brodie Croyle.

I doubt they'd drop Croyle. I'm guessing they'll get rid of Huard or Green. Otherwise, I have no idea why they'd be trying out Omar.

They'd be stupid as hell to get rid of Huard.

i was spying around the chief's forums and it seems that there's alot of positive opinions on jacobs...i only saw one post that said to pass on him...the rest want him to compete for a qb spot and think he'd make a good 3rd stringer.

whats even stranger in my searches i saw alot of anger on steelers pages (deep in enemy territory) that was directed at letting him go. also, alot of vikings fans want him for some reason.
hey everyone! i'm a moron!

Most Steeler fans weren't angry he was let go. They were angry that the team used a fifth round pick on a guy everybody knew was a project, and then flip-flopped and cut him to pick up St. Pierre (who is universally hated by Steeler fans). It's a wasted pick if you don't plan to develop him for a couple years. Combine that with a few very bad second day drafts in a row, and Steeler fans, used to impeccable drafting, were getting a little restless.

I have trouble believing he'll stick in KC, given their QB situation. I do think he will reward a team that takes a chance on developing him for another couple years as their third QB. With how tight roster situations are in the NFL though, and how it's starting to be in vogue to carry only 2 QBs, it's going to be an uphill climb for Omar.

Just to elaborate on what BGDrew stated, the word out of the KC is that Huard's contract is up and KC needs to be re-signed him. If Huard does re-sign, then KC could let Green move on, especially since he is slated to make 7.2 million next season. If Huard doesn't re-sign, obviously a QB slot becomes available that way as well.

This could be good for Omar and the Browns... If KC lets Green go the Browns could pick him up and we would have a solid vet QB, and not have to waste ANOTHER draft pick on a crappy QB cough* frye cough* Good Luck OMAR!

The steelers front office should be better prepared for players getting hit by cars.

As far as Omar in KC, why wouldnt they look at him? Most teams carry three QBs up until the last preseason game. They have two aging veterans who will see most of their minutes. They could put Omar on the PS, maybe send him to Europe this year and go from there.

It will absolutely be an uphill climb for Omar to ever make a team. I completely agree with that point. The QB position is one where the level of talent is growing by leaps and bounds. Most teams have their QBs of now, their QBs of their future and their own guys that they drafted (Like Croyle) to develop down the road. Omar needs to go to Europe and get snaps under center and learn how to learn offenses.

That's true about the Browns QB's. They need to admit that Frye was a mistake, get rid of all the QB's on their roster and start from scratch with:

1)Brady Quinn or Jamarcus Russell....assuming one of the top teams passes on QB, which I feel they will
2)Savvy Veteran. Doesn't even matter which one. Bring Testeverde in! Just someone who can step in with experience and leadership if the high draft pick gets hurt.
3)Dirt cheap project QB (Omar Jacobs, perhaps?)

That's the best way to handle the situation IMHO, though I admit that getting one of the top 2 QB's may not happen for them. If not, they may have to try to get Drew Stanton late in the first round by trading up.
Finally a senior!

So let me get this straight. You want to draft a rookie QB and pay him a bunch of money and sit him behind a line with no LT. Recipe for failure. Especially when the market for QBS is going to be so overfilled this offseason that they will be able to snag someone of some talent with just the offer of a potential starters role. Then you want them to have a project QB? Why? If they just drafted a QB number 3 or 4 overall why do they have a guy developing in round 5? It no longer makes any sense to draft a QB after round 1 unless you are absolutely in love with a guy and you feel he has fallen substantially. You can get a backup QB who has some experience easy enough now. No point of developing a guy. By the time the QB you have developed is ready to play he will be a FA and ready to test the waters. It makes a lot more sense to have Ken Dorsey or someone who has started a game or played some minutes then to turn to a guy who has never taken an NFL snap. The current climate of the NFL QB position does not bode well for Omar.

I hope to God the Browns would bring back Interceptaverde. He was my favorite Browns QB -- he hit the open Steeler a hell of a lot more consistently than Kordell did.

Word from the Senior Bowl is that the Browns really like Joe Thomas with their pick. We'll see what happens.
