BGSU listed on Gophersports.com
Hello all, just dropping into note that it looks like Bowling Green's trip to the Metrodump is official. Our website finally changed "MAC Opponent" to "Bowling Green.
http://www.gophersports.com/SportSelect ... PSID=38609
Interestingly, the only time Minnesota and BGSU have tangled previously was in the season opener from 1986, when we were breaking in a new coach as well.

I was at that game. I believe Minnie's QB was named Rickey Foggie, or something similar. I remember being horrified at just how bad the playing surface of the Metrodome was. BG was breaking in a new coach at the time, too. His tenure is not one of the bright spots in our athletic history, either.
In 1986, we endured two painful beatings to what are now BCS schools - Washington and Minnesota. I was at both and they were both u-g-l-y.
Geez, that seems like a long, long time ago.

Re: BGSU listed on Gophersports.com
It was Ricky Foggie. The Metrodome's playing surface has been pretty bad over the years, it's definitely better now that it's FieldTurf. Attendance should be pretty interesting. We have a new, on-campus, outdoor stadium on the way in 2009, and so our season ticket base is growing year by year. Additionally, our attendance for the non-conference games has been traditionally bad, so the athletic department has been attaching a rivalry game (Wisconsin or Iowa) with a non-conference game. The BG has been tied with the Wisconsin game, so my guess is that the 'attendance' will be 60k. It could be in actuality 45 to 50k.1987alum wrote:Winona:

Compare and contrast non-conference schedules for 2007:
Bowling Green: @ Minnesota, @ Boston College, NAVY, BOISE STATE
Minnesota: BOWLING GREEN, MIAMI(OH), @ Florida Atlantic, NORTH DAKOTA STATE
Which school gets millions of dollars for simply being a part of a BCS conference and which school gets sqwat?

Yep. I know I'm in the minority, but that OOC schedule looks like suicide to me. I don't see how playing North Dakota State is OK for Minnesota, but I-AA games are looked upon as death by some BG fans.

Yeah, but ND State is a really good I-AA. Considering they almost beat Minnesota last year, and their HC was rumored to be wanted by Minnesota, I think Minnesota is taking a risk scheduling them again.1987alum wrote:

But I do agree with you, scheduling I-AA isn't a bad thing to me, and the games can be just as good.

I certainly have changed my tune about 1-AA games recently. If it's OK for BCS teams to sked 1-AA, I have no problem with BG doing one every so often.
And this OOC sked, while difficult, is great. Nice job!

You can't have it both ways...You can't moan and complain that national media (or local media) don't give us any credit, and then complain that our OOC is too tough. We have nothing to lose with schedules like this. If we get the crap beat out of us, it has minimal effect as we are "expected" to get blown out. We keep that game close and lose, we gain some respect. We beat a big team and we gain even more respect. That's the name of the game...Purdue was how long ago and we are STILL talking about it? Time the team steps up and starts performing at the level at which many people on this site believe they can perform!
A agree. Depending on how the schedule breaks down, the season could be over by the mid-point. Off course, the OOC schedule will be a nice cover for the coaching staff.1987alum wrote:Warthog wrote:Compare and contrast non-conference schedules for 2007:

If this team gets worse and not better, which is more than possible, wow. They could be 0-4, 0-6, 1-8, and so on, as the year goes by. I think they'll pick-off somebody, maybe Navy, maybe a MAC team, but it looks like there won't be much to tune into until late in the season.
