Again, Scout and Rivals has him verballed to Ball State. :? Maybe that great Ball State recruiting class I have been reading about on the MAC boards is really all coming to BG.

The guy who runs Michiganpreps through Rivals said Johnson had verballed to BG on the michigan prpes messageboard. I didn't list it here because the actual listing had him at Ball State

Bojicic, Hutson and Johnson are all on the top fitty list

Scout.comm has a Michigan top100 countdown...thery're at 60 now. Found a new verbal at 77.

77 – Maurice Goodrum – RB – Detroit Henry Ford (5’8, 175)
Goodrum is a cat quick back who has committed to Bowling Green where he should fit in well with their spread offense.

On edit...Mick has Goodrum in his top 50 at #50, but he has him going to EMU.

I am very confused about how to edit my official commit list thread. Are they going or are they not? Flipper, you have the ability to edit my posts. You make the call.....

We don't want these guys. Detroit isn't close enough to BG. They need to be from Ohio.

I think the interesting part of this "top 50" list is how few of them seem to be heading to Michigan, as opposed to MSU and/or MAC schools...evidently, UM isn't as impressed with them as the other schools seem to be...Then again, UM recruits nationally much better than MSU...perhaps that's the reason.

As to what I perceived as a "crack" at my comments about our lack of Ohio kids, I'll take Ohio kids over Mich. kids just about every day of the week. There quite obviously are exceptions, but just look through the records and see which BG teams were the strongest....a STRONG Ohio presence.

There is a reason why the premiere program in Michigan leaves the state to find it's talent.

There is a reason why the premiere program in Ohio makes it's priority in recruiting to shore up Ohio.

I'll take talent over geography as well. But I don't think you can build a sustainable program at the MAC level by dismissing instate talent, ESPECIALLY when that state is one of the best HS football states in the country.

When we go down to Florida to get kids we are recruiting the talent that Miami, FSU, and UF don't want...most of the times we're also recruiting the kids that USF, UCF, FIU, etc passed on as well.

When we recruit Ohio we are recruiting the kids that UM, OSU, and ND don't want. But we should always be able to compete with most of their other suitors.

It is incredibly difficult to sustain a winning program if you do not recruit your home state well. Even at the highest level very few of the top programs rely heavily on out of state kids...Michigan is the exception, and they recruit nationally out of necessity. We will never have the budget to recruit on a national scale and do it well enough to be a top tier MAC team for the long haul.

Hammb is right on the money here. Look at Rivals state by state rankings for some insight into the depth of talent in each state. They rank the top 100 in California, Florida, and Texas, the top 50 in Ohio and Georgia, and the top 40 in Pennsylvania and Louisiana. They rank the top 30 in Michigan. Last year, they ranked the top 60 in Ohio and the top 20 in Michigan. In 2005, it was 40 - 20 Ohio and in 2004 it was 50 - 25 Ohio. There are always many more top prospects in Ohio than there are in Michigan.

We're offering scholarships to Ohio kids...TONS of schools are offering scholarships to Ohio kids. We didn't land a slew of those kids we offered (apparently). I'm glad we can go and find talented kids in Michigan, Florida and elsewhere so we don't have to offer a bunch of Ohio kids who don't have ay other d1A interest.

I do believe there have been years where budgetary constraints forced us to to do just that...

*******on edit**************

Rivals now shows Johnson as a BGSU commit. We're really adding some size on the DL...it would'nt shock me if some of these guys wound up on the oline...we don't seem to be addressing that need so strongly this year.

HS Linemen usually play both ways...especially the talented athletic ones. Wouldn't shock me at all if some of these DL guys find their way to the OL. Wouldn't upset me at all either, because we need an influx of talent their as well. You win in the trenches and you can never have too many good linemen.
