I'd be more than willing to include Svendsen in that list.

Oh, and when you eventually take a break from talking crap, maybe you could actually look at the arguments that have been made about the fact that we HAVE, in fact, brought in top quality recruits, and continue to do so.

When was the last time we brought in a 5-star or 4-star talent? It's no different in hockey. That's why when I see us recruiting a forward who has only scored 3 times in his last 50+ games, that just proves that we can't recruit well. You can't tell me that guy was our first choice to help us at forward, the idea is laughable. So he's just a recruited walk-on, its not wasting a scholie. That's not good enough. And you know he's not going to develop because our coach stinks. How many players on our current team are any good? Whitmore, Matsumoto, maybe Spratt and that's it. The rest of its crap pretty much. Crap to the tone of 6-22-2. That's why I commented about Paluch. As has been mentioned many times in the football forum, you can recruit the best players, but if your coaching staff stinks (which our hockey staff CLEARLY does) you won't be able to develop that talent that you brought in. And when a player doesn't have much talent to begin with, ughh.

Boy, I just bet this makes the players who read this board feel great about themselves. Great self esteem builder here. No wonder they don't want to give it their all. Coaching may be a big part of the problem but stuff like this doesn't help either!!!

And everybody knows you can't win on talent alone. Attitude and personal motives have a lot to do with winning and losing.
It is great that we have the highest scoring forward in the USHL coming in next year. It was a good move having him commit to BGSU when he was about 14 years old.
Nobody truly proves anything until they have played a game in college. Lets not forget that this kid is about 5 foot, and 120 lbs. The college game is pretty physical. I hope that he does well, and brings some offence to the team.

You don't take criticism well, do you? If you don't expect incorrect statements to be challenged here then you may want to go crawl back under the rock that you emerged from, because you're in the wrong place. You can't just spew out crap like that and expect people who know what's going on not to counter it. We're getting good recruits, what we do with them after they're here is another story all together and isn't a part of this discussion.
It blows my mind on how people can stand to defend the coaches on the recruits that they sign. The USHL is an easier league and lower step then college. If we cant bring in players that are putting up points and can be an asset to our scoring inablities then we are going to go no where. You can say all you want about Jacob C. but he is 5 feet 120 pounds, with an attitude that is going to get him beat down to 4.5 feet.
With recruiting goalies, the coaches really screwed up there. They are going to force Greer to transfer to a D3 school likely and they will be stuck with three potential starting goalies for next year. That could be the most unplanned recruiting outlook ever. You dont want two backups that can start just wasting away. It is only going to cause a conflict between the team.
You can only go so far on hard working players, but when it comes to what wins hockey games is scoring goals. If we dont have recruits that can put the numbers up we will suck for years to come.
There are a lot of reasons why we're struggling, but make no mistake that the overall talent level is one of them.
Calling the current players crap is rediculously harsh and really doesn't do anyone any good. At the same time, you'd better believe that we are not recruiting the same level of talent as most of the other CCHA schools (let alone the talent we used to bring in).
Bottom line is that we've got to find ways to start recruiting better players and, in the mean time, help our current guys be the best they can be.
The last I heard, the USHL is the best league to recruit from for college, so what more do you want? Nelson Emerson and Greg Parks were about the same size as Cepis is and set scoring records here. Size, IMO, is no indication of ability.

I am absolutely miserable about this subject. I am completely fed up with our hockey program, and am generally ashamed to be a fan of BG hockey. We need to rip it all up, coaches, staff, players who don't feel like giving their all (by the looks of things there are plenty), etc, and start over. When was the last time we had an over-.500 record or even won a fricking playoff game?!
Now the next time anyone calls me out as blinded by optimism (see Women's Basketball, Football) just bring up this post. I'm done.

No matter where you go anymore you seem to be dealing with nothing but extremes, which not only makes people feel uncomforable, but, as in this case, can be quite offensive. I honestly don't remember you being like this until recently, which is why I said something. Sure, we all get frustrated, but to take that frustration to the point where you are publicly tearing down a recruit that you know nothing about is, in my opinion, pretty damned low.
All I'm really trying to say is - CHILL OUT! Getting this upset isn't going to make anything happen. If you want to see change, articulate your point calmly and with rationale. That will get you much farther with everyone involved.

I seem to remember a shorter guy that played a few years ago....didn't score a lot of goals, but didn't back down from anybody either.....oh yeah, Dennis Williams! He was also one of the best penalty killers I have ever seen. The combination of him and Ryan Wetterberg (another player on the shorter side) killed many a penalties by themselves. They were able to tie the puck up along the boards and even the BIG defensemen in the league were unable to get the puck from them. With the move towards more speed and less clutch and grab hockey, Cepis will be fine as long as he keeps his head about him (and doesn't get distracted by the puck bunnies )
As for Tiesling, he brings one thing that is desperately needed on this team, SIZE. With his size, I'm willing to bet that he can park himself in front of the net and put up a pretty good screen. You don't get credited with points for that. He might be one of the reasons Cepis is the leading scorer in the league. Or, the two of them are really good friends and having him here might keep Cepis from jumping to the pro ranks right away.
