Old Anderson Arena Pic

Post by Dayons_Den »

Came accross this picture when I was going through some old media guides. Here is what Dayon's Den looked like long before it was even Joe Bair's Lair. . . .

Note the hooped unis of Marquette and the BGSU seal on the wall that is now on the south(east) wall.

My first rememberances of the North wall are when it was painted with a falcon swooping down with the orane and brown lines behind it. . .

Cool photo! I have to wonder where the ball was in that instant though, because everybody's looking at thin air. Either it's a funny angle or number 14's shot has one heck of an arc.

I am thinking that "33" in that picture is Rich Walker, a long time assistant at Iowa.
I was at that game, but having trouble rembering who all was playing for BG.
I even remember going to the old Holiday Inn in BG after the game with Bob Hill (ex Knick and Spur head coach and former Falcon, Al McGuire ( who stayed behind and sent his team home, George Raveling (ex Maryland assistant who was in town recruiting) and Pat Haley (BG HC). A night I will never forget!!!

Marquette always set the "fashion" trends when McGuire coached them. McGuire's teams may not always have played the fundamentally sound game, but they ALWAYS played with style.i

That's messed up!! No bleachers at all on that end, and notice the big TV camera on a rolling tripod, must have been televised in a big way with Marquette in The House That Roars!

That's Rich Walker coming out from under the basket, I think No. 15 is Jim Connally, the white guy off to the left is Al Russ and the Falcon in the corner I believe is Eric Himes. Who the Falcon in the paint is behind the Marquette shooter is the mystery. I can't be sure -- It might by a guy named Krall but I don't recall that he ever played that much.

That be Dean Meminger #14 and Jim Chones off to the right. I think Marquette won NIT that year.
They were still the Warriors back then
