As of today, the women are averaging 1,478 per game.

But put it in perspective:

-- The women have passed the men, who are averaging 1,408 per game.
-- The women have only averaged more than 1,000 six other seasons in school history.
-- The all time record average for women's basketball season at Bowling Green is 1,547 -- a mark buoyed by the fact that the home season included a first round NCAA tournament game against Creighton that drew 3,772 people.

If a couple more crowds come close to that of Sunday -- which *was* impressive considering the weather and the fact that it was Super Bowl Sunday -- and the women will set a new record.

I'd like to think the record is within reach. We may know in couple of days. I'm not sure fans are so tuned to realize how big the game is with Ball State, but enthusiasm for this team seems to continue to grow.

For those people on Campus -- is there any buzz about the game tomorrow? Is the university marketing it to the students as a huge game?

I would like to see the biggest crowd of the year there tomorrow, including a packed student section. Wouldn't it be cool if we could get the sideline area full down the length of the court (except for the taped off TV area) instead of just at BG's end? I'm not sure Ball State would be able to handle that kind of intimidation. Get it done, students.

Unfortunately I haven't seen the marketing people doing much of anything for Wednesday's game. They don't have signs on campus, they don't have the stuff at the Union tables, they don't even have the fliers on the tables in the dining halls right now. In fact, the marketing hasn't just been bad for women's basketball, its been almost a month since I've seen an advertisement for hockey. Thumbs down to marketing!

unfortunately, it sounds like BG hired the "former" Cleveland Rockers' marketing department.

Traditionally, television depresses attendance, hence all the controversy with the high schools allowing BCSN to show revenue-generating events like football and basketball.

The fact that locals could have just as easily watched the game on TV makes the 2K+ crowd on Super Bowl Sunday all the more impressive in my book.

From reading comments about the game atmosphere, it sounds like the crowd did their job well.

You may disagree with me on this but hear me out. How many other ranked teams in the country average only 1,500 fans a game? How many other ranked teams only draw 2,300 fans to a televised BIG rivalry game? Most people on this board do their part, but the community in and around BG does not. I firmly believe that some of those voters saw some of the game on Sunday and saw how the arena still wasn't full even given the extreme circumstances; and they had to ask themselves why such a good team can't fill their arena. They must feel we aren't better than many other teams who can pack their houses.

I can't quite figure out how to write out my exact thoughts behind this, I guess I better pay more attention in my next 'effective communication' course.

Start filling the arena and show the whole country that this team and this entire school deserves its place near the top of the list.

You make an excellent point Niz. We have to be the worst team as far as attendance in home games of all the Top 25 teams , I guarantee it. Why the townies or students for that matter are so fickle is beyond me. We're on a huge win streak, ranked in the top 25 have won 2 Mac Championships in a row, gosh darnit what else can we do?

The Marketing people suck beyond belief, if theres nothing around the campus and in dorms and in the Union to advertise all our home games, especially this Ball St game tommorrow which will be for the Mac regular season championship in my opinion.

Really? How will you pay on that guarantee?

How about the 8th ranked Lady George Washington Lady Colonials.
A whopping 609 per game.

ATTENDANCE SUMMARY GAMES TOTALS AVG/GAME
HOME.................... 9 5481 609

Stop bitching at everyone and do what you can do to make a difference. Go to the game and bring a friend, family member, or clergyman.

First of all I can most certianly guarantee you that is most likely a major typo. Its asinine to think the #8 team in the nation is averaging only 690 fans per game, thats just ridiculous.

Which is it? Most certianly(sic) or most likely?
And what is/are your subsequent point(s)?

It appears that GW hasn't drawn more than 725 for a home game.

Edit: GW had 863 for a game vs. UMass.

Please don't misconstrue my statement as complaining about attendance. I was merely trying to state that maybe our recent poll decline has some relation to our inability to fill our arena. I don't think it is the fault of students, fans, or alumni because we are all certainly doing better than maybe we ever have. The failure comes from the University and its lack of marketing for the team.

As I said before I seem to be having some trouble moving ideas from my brain to my computer screen and I'm sorry if it seems like I'm complaining because I certainly don't mean to.
Yeah right girl!

Damn. I think you maybe right. My bad, seriously. I checked GW's website and barring more info from GW fans on the ESPN board, GW average attendance may indeed be that low. I'm total shock. What the hell is up with their community? I never in a million years could've guessed or believed that a #8 ranked team could have that few of fans watch their games. :?

Not so fast.

I heard they have a consistent group of about 2,000 who come after halftime. Doesn't count for "total" attendance, but at least they get in free.
