I am not as upset on this departure as some of the others. The guy came in here after being at several other schools in a short period of time. Last year our Defense was HORRIBLE. This past season they really flew to the ball, but still didn't know what to do once they got there. Our tackling skills have not really improved and we gave up way to many big plays due to people consistently not knowing where to be on the field. I would like to see us go and find a D coordinator from a top 1AA school who will focus on the fundamental aspects of defense. The same goes with all of our other open positions. Good coaching, no mater where it comes from, is still good coaching and this is what this team needs a lot of right now.

This really blows. The defense was just starting to adapt to Lovett's style last year. Way to go GB!!

good coaching...but that often takes time to incorperate into an overall scheme...and lets not count out stability...which we havnt seen enough of since gb took over.

i wonder if he ever reads this page? hahah

Is there anything else you "falcon" fans can b!tch about?

I'm as frustrated as the next guy, but helping to tear down "our own program" isn't going to help.

I agree with It's the Journey. The defense wasn't that good. I've said this since he arrived: Lovett was a wash-out from being fired from bigger schools, or fired as part of the staff replaced at several bigger schools. He was hired because BG lost its last DC very late, sometime at or right after springball, and he was a warm body. His resume reads like somebody that can't hold a job, he never seems to be around long enough to indicate he is prized by anybody. His first year sucked long and hard as most of us recall. He might have improved on sucking this last year, but the product still wasn't great.

And we can talk about "upward moves" until the cows come home, but its key to note Brandon hasn't gone anyplace, and it would seem that people aren't inclined to think he will anytime soon, to anything bigger than this. Otherwise they might stick around. Its like the coaching gigs are UT. Stutz isn't going anyplace until either he chokes on a burger, or drives the program lower than hitler in hell. Assistants know they aren't there to ride him to a bigger program.

Turn-over is one thing. So many people are bailing out right now, its like watching an airborne invasion unfold.

WTF!!!!! Boy is this telling. Gregg Brandon has now destroyed a one uprising program and pounded it into the dust. I may now debate whether I even want to check out the recruiting class announcement. Damn, thanks alot GB , you've now done the unimaginable. Somebody..... :smt100
BS!
its all about money and we are the farm conference for the rest of D1...we all know it. this has 0 to do with GB and everything to do with folks growing and moving on. And until such time as the MAC has a fair and equal opportunity to play for a real national title and the BCS disbanded,,,this will continue to be the status quo.
my guess is even GB will be moving on by Choice mind you with in 3...he will rebuild the team and have a national presence and go shopping.

Good post, FCF. I stated in one of my columns that GB has 2 years left on the contract to right the ship. What will happen in the next 2 years? We're about to find out. There are folks on both sides of the fence here.

I sincerely hope Coach B can get the job done...I really do. As far as Lovett leaving? He did a decent job but nothing outstanding. I thought he would really do well here but maybe he isn't as good as I thought.

The way I see it...many of problem areas in 2006? Those coaches aren't here anymore. Is GB the problem? Is he not cut out to be a head coach at BG and the MAC? Ya gotta give the man a chance to fix it. IF he doesn't, find somebody that will. It's nothing personal...I think GB is a great guy, classy and a good family man. I think he knows that it isn't personal and he's paid to win football games....and will do everything he can to get BG back to the top. He doesn't have a choice. Everyone knows ya gotta win in college football to keep your job. And sometimes that isn't enough. Ask Frank Solich. It's a rough profession, especially on the non bcs level.

Hey, I'm ready for spring ball and let's see what happens in 07.

If these guys were all so damn good, why did they have to stick around here for three or four years while our team got worse? It seems oxymoronic to say the coaches were good but the team got worse. :?

It makes less sense to say that they sucked, but were hired for better jobs anyway :-)

The only one that I thought was sub-par was Stud, and he got hired to do a different job.

I think it makes sense to say we had a lot of good coaches that couldn't overcome the head guy's incompetence, and were smart enough to get out from under him while they still could.

I think that's a bit harsh...but why rehash that argument :-) . I wonder if Springer would have left if he knew Lovett were going to go. I think Springer might have become the new DC if he were here. He was one of the first guys Brandon hired when he became HC here.

I was looking for them to go outside of the staff for the DC, but as my wife pointed out, five guys left so you might want some continuity at the top.

We shall see.

Yikes.

I thought Lovett was doing a good job. I saw heart on the defensive side of the ball.

There go my season tickets.

Obviously Falconboy has never been to Chapel Hill. While Carolina football is not the most popular sport in said city, there are a number of things that make a job there very attractive:

1. The Dean Dome and a certain sport invented by Dr. Naismith in which both the men and women play a decent game.

2. Anson Dorrance and the women's soccer team

3. The Rathskelter (located on Franklin St. and it looks like a pit, but the food is FANTASTIC!)

And I'm only getting started. Go back to watching '24'.
